I've thought of this too. The parks are getting a chance to "rest" and spend some time by themselves again, largely devoid of humans, like they have for the millions of years previous to modern times. I bet they miss us though.by bbb - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Just to play devils advocate, I wonder who would profit from a Yosemite West expansion. Are there inholdings and property owners who would benefit here? The news story paints the motives as 100% altruistic, which makes me suspicious. :by bbb - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
National park advocates pressing Congress to prevent deep budget cuts Washington Post "...We expect that a cut of this magnitude, intensified by the lateness of the implementation, will result in reductions to visitor services, hours of operation, shortening of seasons and possibly the closing of areas during periods when there is insufficient staff to ensure the protection of visitors,by bbb - General Discussion

Quoteparklover We are planning to fly into Calgary. We would love to take the train but don't have enough time with my son's competitive marching band practice this summer and it would cost more money. We also had thought about driving to Glacier NP and Waterton and then on up to Baniff and Jasper but time and money is again an issue. A couple of years ago, I drove from Montana into British Columbia and crossed through Kootenay National Park into Banff. From Banff, I drove as far north as the Abasthca Glacier but did not make it to Jasper. It was all an incredible area with gorgeous scenery. You didn't ask and you might already know this, but I just wanted to point out that personal locator beacons like the McMurdo FastFind have no subscription cost and have better reliability when it comes to sending a distress signal. The downside, of course, is that most have no other use besides notifying the authorities that you are in trouble.by bbb - General Discussion

Arizona defeats ballot measure contesting Grand Canyon ownership PHOENIX (Reuters) - Arizona voters on Tuesday defeated a ballot measure contesting ownership of the Grand Canyon and other federal lands in the state, handing another defeat to the "sagebrush revolt" by Republicans in Western states. I've had too many mediocre experiences that I pretty much skip Lee Vining when it comes to food, with the exception of coffee at Latte Da/El Mono motel. I was in Denali the day after this occurred. It was strange because only the day before a waiter at a local restaurant, in an effort to allay any fear of bears, reminded my party that there had never been a serious bear-on-human attack in the entire history of the park. The next day, while taking a shuttle tour on the only road through the park, we noticed that a large swath of land that was clby bbb - General Discussion
