I took some time-lapse videos of my journey (actually photos every second for parts of the journey) and when I've finished processing them in a few days I'll post the resulting videos if anyone is interested in seeing them. I have to warn though they will probably be amateurish, I'm still new to photographyby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just wanted to say thanks to all those people on the forum who posted regular updates on the conditions of Tioga / Sonora pass, and helped with my other Yosemite / SN general questions. Unfortunately my date of travel 27th May Tioga, Sonora and Ebbets passes were all closed so I had to take Carson, which turned a 200 mile drive that day into a 440 mile drive. Still with the scenary I went thrby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I could do... but it'll still be a massive journey, and I'd rather take the scenery in if at all possible!by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Any news updates on Sonora ? I saw another storm is expected and really could do with getting up to date info on the status of the roads. I've checked CalTrans and the NPS site's but don't have massive faith in them because of sites like "Mono lake" that reported their progress a lot more frequently than they did. I'll need a reliable source of information to access for Thursdayby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I don't think that's an option :'( With Tioga I'd be doing 197 miles in the day, Sonora 315. 88 would make it 403. All in one day is a very big ask! Fingers crossed Sonora will stay openby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Fingers crossed for a miracle and it opens on Thursday!by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Uh-oh. Sonora pass was my backup for Tioga this coming Thursdayby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Which would you say is the more scenic? Hoping to do Tioga pass because of the time saving, but even though the crews are making great progress for the amount of snow this year, I don't think it'll be open by the time I need it (May 27th). I've seen a few galleries regarding Tioga pass and the photos look truly stunning, I just want to know if Sonora is of equal beauty?by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
May 12, 2010 Glacier Point Road: Crew had to plow and sand from new snow accumulation and is now working back from Glacier Point to widen and clean roadway. Crews are also Sweeping and Patching Potholes. Average Snow Depth is 4 feet Plowing operations will continue today. Contractor is working on the road from Chinquapin to Badger Pass. QuoteeeekIt's a lot after than the initial plow through though. Do you mean a lot quicker than the initial plow, or doesn't occur till quite a while after the initial plow?by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Ahh shame Thanks for the continuous updates on the progress from the West though, it's much appreciated. So the NPS are just over 6 miles away from Tuolumne Meadows? Although I did notice the special weather statement which looks like they'll have to re-plow some areas Tuesday eveningby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Still no news on Caltrans from the east?by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Anymore news on how CalTrans are doing from the East?by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks szalkowski. That in it's self looks like a significant amount of road to plow from Lee Vining. Fingers crossed a few good weeks of weather will mean they can open up the pass in similar dates to previous years. I know it's extremely unlikely but I can still hopeby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Could someone link me to google maps or something similar of where the "eatern gate at Tioga pass" is please? QuoteTioga Road Plowed to Eastern Yosemite Gate I just spoke to a nice ranger at the Lee Vining ranger station. They informed me that Tioga Road is indeed open all the way up to the eastern gate at Tioga Pass. That means Mt. Looks like the nps site has been updated with a very useful map showing current progress: Goooooo snow plows!by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So roughly 37 miles, of which 4 miles have already been done? I know everyone is going to be extremely pessimistic here, but I think it's looking good :-)by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks Louis. That sounds like they've made a significant amount of progress. Anyone know how many miles in total they need to plow?by DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hi, I have seen the post by Dave regarding Glacier point road providing the update re plowing. Is there any update on Tioga Road/Pass ? I'm interested to see regular updates as there has been in the past, but at present I can't find any - and the nps site hasn't been updated. Thanks, Duncanby DuncanMeyers - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
