My husband and I have joked and pondered for weeks now. As we were gripping the cables toward the summit of half dome Monday morning June 21, we only met 2 or 3 hikers coming down as we were part of the "early" crowd. I'm guessing we were there around 10am. As I was clinging for my life nervously awaiting one of the down climbers, he jumped outside the cables and breezed right past uby Flatland Hiker Girl - General Discussion
Chikc-On says looks like you'll just miss the cables going up? Any local word on when they are planning on getting them up. I talked to a ranger on Friday and "all she could tell me was when they will not be up (June 11-13)." Is it really that snowy and dangerous or is the National Park Service being overly cautious? How long does it take them to put the cables up once they decide it's safe? Is it done in a day? Hoping for a MELTDOWN in the next 10 days!!by Flatland Hiker Girl - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Any insight/speculations would be helpful here. Planning on hiking the Cloud's Rest trail June 20. Curious what the expected trail conditions might be. I've seen a few trip reports of hikers wading up to waist deep to cross the Tenaya Lake outlet. Is this typical this time of year (given the snow coverage), and do the creek crossings on the trail usually require a knee deep wade? If so, howby Flatland Hiker Girl - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
