Well unfortunately the girlfriend was sick and not in a state to hike at all. Neither of us realized this until we were well into the first day. Ended up just camping in Lyell canyon one night and hiking back the same way the next day. Dissappoonted we couldn't make it to any lakes this time around (there was no way she could have hiked uphill towards vogelsang on day 2) but Lyell canyon was preby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Wow. Very nice! I don't mind one Long 14-16 mile day at all (did A much more strenuous 3 day 40 mile loop out of mineral king just recently) so I'll head towards emeric on the second day and see how It goes. Will let You know what I get a chance to see and climb this time aroundby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the tips. So you said babcock isn't worth a visit- is there then not much worth seeing on the southern half of that trail (heading south after emerick)?by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The girlfriend and I have decided to embark on a 3 day backpacking trip in the yosemite high country. We plan to leave this Friday. What I'm thinking is a loop: starting via Lyell perhaps staying at Ireland lake the First night. Not sure where I'd camp the second night but we'd continue to vogelsang, then along Lewis creek, then back around via fletcher and rafferty trail. I know if I camp at Irby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
two weeks ago There was some knee deep water at delaney but it was not swift at all. I'm guessing the 100 yards of knee deep water he's referring to is at glen aulin...it's still water and even under all the water it's obvious where the trail is. I wouldn't be too concerned at this pointby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Here are two pics of morrison- and one very brief section where the river flooded onto the trail-by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks, szalkowski. I should have said before the Glen Aulin HSC. And Bill, we saw the skull! We were perplexed trying to figure out what animal it was- not sure why donkey never came to mindby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just got back from a 3 day trip through the Grand Canyon of the Tolumne River. Arrived at Tuolumne meadow's backpacker's campground and stayed there for one night (campground is still officially closed but we just walked in and ste up camp...as did a few other groups). On Saturday Morning, we left are car at t. meadows store and caught the 9:10 AM YARTS shuttle to white wolf- gate to White Wby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks again for all your info and advice. Just curious, What/where did you end up climbing along the route?by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Good to know someone made it. Do you have the link to where that was posted?by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Peter, when I last spoke with the wilderness permit office a few days ago, I was told that 1) the gate will likely still be closed this weekend, so you have to park on the side of the road and then walk to the trailhead from there (or YARTS will drop you off there if you use that shuttle). 2) you're likely to encounter some snow hiking into white wolf, but not so much as to be a problem. gettingby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I called the wilderness permit reservation number today and was told that the tuolumne campground is scheduled to open this Friday as well (though it's not guaranteed).by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hmm, maybe the person i spoke with today was misinformed. I'll make sure to call again to double check on that. If the shuttle isn't running I definitely wouldn't mind just going in from tuolumne and heading back up the same way as you suggestby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
called YARTS today and the 9 AM shuttle from Tuolumne to White Wolf is already running on Saturday and Sundays.by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So I plan on heading to tuolumne meadows to hike the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne river with 3 friends next Saturday. I'd like to be in the area the night before we begin hiking, so that we can drop off our car at tuolumne meadows and and catch the 9 AM shuttle to white wolf. I did a little bit of research and as far as I know, Big Bend campground in Inyo National Forest is the closest place toby diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks Bill- Good to hear you had an enjoyable trip out there this week. And yeah, It'd be great to see your photos of the log and crossing at register (or any of the others actually).by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks, Szalkowski. Thrashing through a swampy valley sounds... interesting, though I'm having a hard time imagining it. (I've seen pictures of pate valley, but mostly recall seeing dry forested areas).by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This thread interested me since I'll be passing through that area when I hike the grand canyon of the tuolumne river, though my trip is scheduled to begin on June 26 and I'll begin at White Wolf (are the crossing on this side of the hike near Pate any worse than delaney and dingley?). I expect to encounter plenty of water then, but I'll be ready for it.by diesel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
