Thanks to you all. Map is nice. I know of the spring you are talking about and used it last time up there. Radioactive fallout readings for sure "should" be down!! I will again have a full body dosimeter I will be wearing. I still to this day have not received any doses like I did back in 2011. 117 mrems out there and total life of wearing doimeters 118. Hello again. Just thinking about my JMT journey in July and we are going to start our trip with a side-trip to Half Dome then on to Clouds Rest. I have a pass-thru permit which I will back-track from HD/CR junction on day two then back over to CR. After Clouds Rest on to Sunrise Lakes . My question: is there a creek or water supply between Clouds Rest and Sunrise Lakes? All my maps show a creek,by beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Good morning Yosemite Fans!! I received e-mail confirmation at 3:21 am cdst that I was awarded permits for Half Dome that I applied for. UNBELIEVABLE!! Out of 300 available!! That will be the 2nd day of our adventure of the 25 days on the John Muir Trail. Hope you ALL on here are successful. Have a "Blessed" day.by beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hello to all. Hope all have had a great start to the new year. Still lovin all the topics and info you all put towards helping us with our questions.I have read somewhere that people have done moonlight hikes to the top of Half Dome. Maybe on full moon nights? My question is whether this is done with a permit . In 2011 I did a sunrise hike up to the top and no rangers were present till aprox. 8:by beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Thanks again Chick-on for the advice. Your recommendation for GCT loop and Glen Aulin for sure sounds like a winner!! I have a year to plan so if you backpack across something new & special, I will be looking for your feedback. Have you got any knowledge on promising fishing holes. Good, better,BEST lakes or streams for the trout ? If your out on the trail, hope you have a safe weekend.by beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks so much for your info. We are kind of partial to the last week of June or 1st week of July for starting. We figure on some snow (which we love) but don't want the burden of snow-shoeing. Mosquitoes we will probably have to deal with somewhere and are planning on getting licenced to fish and hope to hear of the lakes that would fill the bellies a time or two! Hello again. Still putting out great info here and that is why I am asking for your help. My sons (16,17 & 21) are all wanting to return and do a backpacking trip with me and want to roam the area north of Yosemite Falls and Half Dome, which we did last June. Clouds Rest is for sure on the list but we would need to loop for restocking of some foods and fuel. We do not want to go into the vallby beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. The best cure here in the south is taking a shower using Dawn dish-washing soap as soon after your exposure as possible. This stuff cuts the "oils" from the Ivy, Oak or Sumac. Great stuff to try. I have 3 boys that if they just see it, they get it!!by beardbuster - General Discussion
Back in June we were going after 10:30 pm and there were no attendants there to take the $5.00 fee. We also had our own towels. When we went during the day hours I paid the 5 bucks and looked at as a donation to the park cause. That makes it all feel better!! If I remember right, back in the 80's they used to stack towels, washcloths and a bucket of bar soap on counter for little to nothing! $1 oby beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I met an energetic lady very similar to your description as I had just started down from Yosemite Falls on the 14th of June after spending 5 days atop camping and enjoying the quite, crowd free environment . My boys and I were about 10 minutes into our descent when a gentleman said a "VERY SPECIAL WOMAN" by the name of Rosemary was coming up behind him and to say hello to her. My control(master control/and or series control) was sent for monitoring radiation exposure during shipment which then was stored in a radioactive free area at my office. The control reading had a minimal reporting service of 1 mrem. The radiation quality was photon medium energy 40 keV to 200 keV. Well we had a GREAT time while at Yosemite. From June 8th - June 23rd we went up Yosemite Falls and camped up there for a few days, stayed at Wawona 6 days and then off to LYV and then on to Half Dome at sunrise the first full day the cables were up.(23rd). My teenage sons (3 ea.) had the time of their life. First time for them and seventh time for me, first time to visit other than winter time.by beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Radioactive mosquitoes!! Stayed at LYV for 3 nights and the mosquitoes followed us up to the last straight stretch to the sub-dome. This was at 5 am in the morning though. Sunrise climb. Hikers were still complaining about them at 9 am on our way down. Just kidding about the radioactive part!! Do hope it is better by now .by beardbuster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I, being a Marine from the early 80's know for a fact that if it is really bad, you will not be told by our government and that also means the rest of the world sure won't fess up to anything either.
