Will the campground reservations be available 6 months ahead of scheduled dates, as per usual? I will be looking for late July/early August reservations. Or will they wait to see the state of the pandemic?by rbell1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I guess 'best route' wasn't the greatest adjective to use. I guess It should be something like: Somewhat interesting drive, without too many stops because it will be hot, and we are meeting other family members in Vegas Friday evening. In addition, my two sons and I have all been to Death Valley fairly recently(non-summer). And, like I said in my original post, we had been to Ancient Bristleconeby rbell1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Google maps says 120 to 6 to NV 264/266, getting to 95. Or 395 to Big Pine, 168 to NV 266 to 95. I've been to Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest before, so I've been on part of the route from Big Pine.by rbell1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So I kept monitoring(still am) the TM reservations board, Tent Only sites, on recreation.gov. There were more Walk-ups(W) showing up Aug 5 and 6. Finally some Available(A) started showing up, so I jumped on and reserved one. The weird thing is that now, a lot of the dates are showing up as Not available(X). Not sure why they don't how up as Reserved any more.by rbell1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks. Not trying to nitpick, but do you mean Walk-up? I take it to mean that it is for the people coming in without a reservation(Like me). That is the term used on recreation.gov.by rbell1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I would like to go to Tuolumne Meadows Campground Aug 6-9. I have lucked out before with other campers cancellations, and picked up reservations here and there. I haven't seen spots marked 'A' for Available(they are all reserved), but I have noticed some marked 'W' for Walk-up. Sometimes(but not always) the 'W' is accompanied by a number; I assume the number is related to an open site. Myby rbell1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Sorry, but I don't think that 8-8:30 is anywhere near early enough, especially on a Thursday(8/24). I try to be in line by 7 AM, and we usually go up there on a Sunday or Monday morning when many campers are packing up to leave. We have had very good luck on finding good sites that way. Best of luck with your time there.by rbell1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
