New York Times has an article about the climb in the news. VERY COOL interactive graphics where you see all of El Capitan then you can zoom into any part of El Cap and see people up close. I've never seen anything like that. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/15/sports/el-capitans-dawn-wall-climbers-reach-top.htmlby Max - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I'm dying for one of you guys that know those parts so well to go on McCoy and find Lyell. I am 99% sure I view Lyell. How I figured this out was when I was up at Mammoth a month ago I went to Minaret Summit and looked that the viewing display that tells you verything up thereby Max - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Bingo chick-on. Since anyone going to site can control the cameras now that it's winter there are some lines to wait for control. Over the summer I could have control sometimes for 10 to 15 minutes without anyone else getting "in-line". Also now that it's winter it appears that control is being overridden by employees. This cam is outside YNP. Please tell me about the fire, heliport cams you speak. Access to general public? The one I'm talking about can be access by general public. Here is some more info on webcam... video not pics (this makes for excellent cloud watching. The Sequoia & King's Canyon is saying that the plane landed NEAR Funston Lake. My guess is that it didn't land in a lake bed. Looking at the NBC video and pics on web and satellite pics it looks like he could have landed just NE of Funston. http://www.nps.gov/seki/parknews/20140916_news_release.htmby Max - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. My highlights that you may want to look into: Moro Rock, Crescent Meadow, Stony Creek below Stony Creek Lodge (water may be to low for this to be good but awesome if water is OK), White Wolf to Heather Lake (Atla Lakes if you want longer hike), Eli Meadow and Sunset Rock. My son and I kayak on Tenaya. A fun thing that he likes to do is to stand or sit on one of tree stump that stick out water about a foot or so that are way out in on the lake. He then with a long rope lets his kayak drift away. He gets a kick out of giving the crowds on Tioga Road something extra to think about.by Max - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
