I think the caller was confused. People can stay the night before and after their backpacking trip at the backpackers' camp in Yosemite Valley (or Tuolumne Meadows, White Wolf, Hetch Hetchy). The stay limit is one night at a time (one before, one after each backpacking trip). LYV is free.
