Just did the North Lake to South Lake loop two weeks ago - Just a gorgeous area of the JMT - Lots of Mosquitoes though - Thanks for the trip reportby SoCalCPA - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
The trip was excellent - Clouds Rest is loaded with places to camp about 1/2 mile before you get to the top - but that wasn't where we camped - Two guys passed our group on the way up and told us they were going to camp on top - We thought "Why not?" - Mind you I was completely clueless as to the camping forbiddances on top of Clouds Rest at the time except for the obvious one stated inby SoCalCPA - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Hello Paul - Nothing more to add - except to clarify that I was holding on to the trash bag with my hands directly in front of me and I was guarding it very carefully, it was not just sitting out - the time period from when I took out the trash from the bear locker to when the bear came was probably less than a minute - all happened very fast.by SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. The only redeeming aspect of the "Elmer" tradition is that kids get a kick out of it - other than that, it's just annoying - A ranger told me that many years ago a kid named Elmer got lost and his mom went throughout Yosemite campgrounds looking for him yelling out his name - A legend was then born as this became a tradition amongst campers to mimic the mother looking for her son - My uby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hi Everyone - Quick Question for you guys I will be doing a short trip the end of June entering the Sunrise Trailhead to Clouds Rest (where we will camp) and down to the valley the next day - Though I've been to Clouds Rest before, I don't know where there might be some good campsites around there - I was thinking of going off trail 100 ft before the final ascent - There looks like some open sby SoCalCPA - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thank you for the advice - I called Yosemite Conservancy and they stated that if on my Permit or Email Reservation Confirmation it gives the Number in the party Hiking Half Dome, then I should be just fine - I just checked my email confirmation and it has the entire number in the party as hiking Half Dome so I shouldn't have a problemby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. What do you mean they changed the rules again - (I have some friends' kids who are coming from back east in June who wanted to climb HD) I have Wilderness permits for the Sunrise Trailhead to camp around Clouds Rest the first night and climb HD the next day - When I requested the permits back in January, I requested to also have the permits for HD and I was granted the permits - Am I now not goinby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I think JRinGeorgia nailed it with his response - I did the first leg of the JMT last summer from the Valley to Reds Meadow - It took my daughter and I three days to go from the valley to Tuolomne (Valley to Little Yosemite to Sunrise HSC to Tuolomne) - we took our time and then another three days from Tuolomne to Reds Meadow (Tuolomne to Lyell FootBridge to Thousand Island to Reds Meadow) - Ourby SoCalCPA - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I came across the 7% numbers at first also which didn't make me optimistic - What I find a little hard to understand is the graph itself - December is generally low percentage wise anyway but then everything picks up and peaks in April - This is what is confusing me - When I first looked at the graph, I just assumed we were talking about snowfall during that period - but we can't have that much sby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'm trying to figure where we stand so far this year but have a hard time understanding the various websites data on this - It looks like we are currently under again percentage wise on snow pack right now, yes? For some reason the water at the Vernal Fall Comfort Station did not taste good at all this year - I usually fill up water bottles on the way up but this year I waited until I was safely past Nevada Falls to get water - I'm guessing it didn't taste as good since it was a low water year but if that's true, wouldn't it have tasted the same above Nevada Falls too - Would seem like it - Don't know -by SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
