Thanks mrcondron and AlmostThere for such swift and helpful replies! I think it will be our first hope to hit Walmart, but if not at least I'll feel comfortable waiting til we are in Yosemite itself. Thanks again.by markwise - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
My group and I are flying from the Midwest out to San Francisco on June 15th, and then driving in to Yosemite for some backpacking. Since we can't fly with the IsoPro fuel we'll need for my MSR PocketRocket stove, we're trying to plan out where to buy our fuel on the way. I know there may be a chance of a Walmart carrying it, but as a backup, I'm trying to cover all bases. Is it true that theby markwise - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Definitely still go! I just finished a week of backpacking and epic hiking around the rim of the valley and it was a blast. We had great snow-free camping at Little Yosemite. Most of the hiking we did was snow free: Mist Trail, John Muir, Panorama Trail, Yosemite Falls/Point. We hiked out to North Dome and did hit a bunch of snow but no snowshoes necessary. We also made it up to Clouds Rest aby markwise - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
@steelcup I'm doing a similar hike starting around June 8 and have been seeking similar answers but have found no one with any helpful information. More snarky remarks than anything. @anyone please who would be able to help I think the question that perhaps we're really wondering here is are there avy areas along the JMT trail that people are aware of from past years? Ulysses61 (or any other Yose hi-country expert) I don't mean to hijack the thread, but given your best guess, how would the snow conditions on the Pohono trail compare to what you found on the trip to Dog Lake? If I were to say, attempt to hike the Pohono the 2nd week of June this year, should I expect 1 foot of snow or 3 feet or what? Thanks!by markwise - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
That's great information. I hadn't noticed that Snow Creek trail on the maps. Now I see it. Looks like that would be a picturesque hike. Good views of HD along the way I would presume? The snowshoeing was an aspect I hadn't considered yet. Given the crazy amounts of snow there presently, can anyone guess from past experience what the snow conditions might be like along the rim of the vallby markwise - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Greetings, Working on planning a trip in early June this year. I'm getting worried about Tioga Road still being closed. Aside from wanting to hike near the usual highlights of Clouds Rest and Half Dome, I would also like to see if there is a good way to hike to North Dome (assuming Tioga Rd. is closed).
