Quotetelfair ave Did anyone listen to the spokesperson for the families from the Modesto Bee article. She felt betrayed and it is unfair and bringing an attorney etc. because there wasn't more of a rescue effort. QuotemrcondronThere has been a major change in the law since this video. I won't bring it up. Sorry. Did you mean not bring up the video or not bring up the change in the law? Not sure which part of the video a change in the law would affect. It seems to broadly cover many crimes and misdemeanors by guests in Yosemite.by GVlog - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. After reading about the hikers who were swept over Vernal Falls, I looked-up Andrea Lankford's books and came across this video. It's old but very interesting. I don't know if it was posted before.by GVlog - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

From the PBS Nature site: Before visiting Yellowstone National Park or “bear country” familiarize yourself with safety precautions in order to avoid bear encounters. “Run for your life” may seem like common sense if a grizzly approaches you, but such action is highly unlikely to foil an attack. The recommended steps are not easy to follow, but they offer the best chance for survivalby GVlog - General Discussion

QuoteYorkThe common experience is that people stop and slow down for something unique. If you use the turnouts as specified by the traffic regulations, it's a non-issue. How many other vehicles are backed up for those who are exercising their "common sense", stopping with their vehicles extending into the roadway, and blocking the road? QuoteYorkAll of this rancor for "common sense" and "considerate behavior" totally lacks common sense. Indeed? You seem to be the sole dissenting opinion. So which is the "common" sense here? Yours or all the others? And if someone blocks a road with his car in a national park to smell the flowers and causes a hazard for other vehicles, he's exercising commonby GVlog - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I share mtn_man's and robinjayp's pains. I may not have shared them as much but I've encountered rude folks who just trod into your campsite or encroach into your area to avail of a better view or orientation. The latter happened to us when we were in Sequioia NP and we happened to have a canyon site that got the right amount of sun and shade. My impression is that bears aren't necessarily lumbering hulks moving across the road. While at Sequoia NP a few years ago, a cub dashed quickly across the road in front of us as we drove back to camp. We had plenty of time to slow down, park by the road and watch him from a distance join his mother. But the incident did make me think that I could have been in a collision had the cub jumped out wby GVlog - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I hiked up to Vernal Falls this weekend and very much enjoyed it except for getting my trail-running shoes wet as I ascended the Mist Trail. I took 30 minutes to dry-off at the top but my shoes and socks remained damp. The descent via the John Muir trail wasn't the most comfortable. I'd like to do the hike again and continue to Nevada Falls. Can anyone recommend better footwear for this hike?by GVlog - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
