Not sure if anyone really cares, but when I was at Gaylor Lakes on June 18 it was clear & quite breezy and there were no mosquitoes. Two days later, on the 20th, a hiker I met at dinner told me the mosquitoes were absolutely vicious that day (the 20th). It just depends on where & when the wind blows. What a fabulous week I had up there, not a cloud in the sky! I didn't have to ligby beccawright - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I'd like to walk around the lake this coming weekend but I understand there's a creek that needs to be crossed on the Western end - which might make it impossible to do "comfortably" this time of year. I'm a sissy when it comes to crossing streams, etc. Does anyone know the current conditions there? Thanks.by beccawright - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Tuolmne Meadows Lodge (tent cabin) reservations can be made online at http://www.yosemitepark.com/lodging.aspx or by telephone at 1-209-372-8413. There is tent cabin availability all next week! I just spoke with the reservations center and learned that the phones at the TM Lodge are down and will remain down for some time. Eeek, do you work at the Wilderness Center? Is this why you seem to know everything that's going on in & around Yosemite? Very impressive, indeed. Just curious. Thanks.by beccawright - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Please let us know what this means? Thanks. "Still hoping for a last minute early opening of Tuolumne Meadows, but seems like a long shot."by beccawright - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'm wonder what it's like in the Tuolumne Meadows area. The snow melt must be having a visible impact on it's creeks and streams, too, right?by beccawright - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I decided to postpone my Tuolmne trip till August. I'm sure hundreds of other people will do the same. ]It's a bummer to cancel but it would be even bummier to have only a few snow-free trails to choose from in the T-Meadows area. Ups...meant El Portal...that's on the Merced. I'm sure everyone is holding their breaths. ChickOn, you say a foot of snow on the trails would be "no big deal?" Even for a solo, intermediate-level day hiker? Really? Thanks for the input and encouragement.by beccawright - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I will do the T.M. trip as planned...but ONLY if (1) the Merced doesn't flood my hotel in Mariposa (a significant possibility) and (2) If the National Weather Service's prediction that "A late season storm will bring a chance of snow above 8000 feet from Yosemite Nation Park to Kings Canyon Tuesday Afternoon through Wednesday Evening" DOESN'T happen. Hi, Ulysses, thanks for your post and input. The weather sure looks iffy on Tues and Weds nites so be careful. If I leave SF as planned on Thursday, my last chance to see your posts will be early that morning. I'm a "day hiker." I have plans to go up to the meadows on June 30 for the long holiday weekend. Was jazzed at the prospect of doing the North Dome trail from the Porcupine Creek lot on Tioga Road. But yesterday one of the Rangers told me that there's still loads of snow on the trail...and that the .8 Indian Rock Arch side jaunt / detour might not be possible.
