I am too lazy to start a new thread. I'll give you the real quick run down. EVERYONE WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE BEAR CANS We got a late start on Saturday, didn't get to the permit station until 5pm. We got most of our mosquito bites in the parking lot at the tenya lake trail head. I didn't believe Basilbop's photo until we actually crossed in barefooted and froze. The Snow screwed us up on the trail from tenya lake. We left late in the afternoon and missed the Sunrise Camp trail head. I blame the lack of sunlight in the trees and the snow mounds for us losing the trail. We ended up camping on that hill with no problems. I think you'll have less snow on that trail head and more water and mud in a week. Here is what it looked like closer to Cloud'sby mbrocklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Real Quick. We made it back safely. The bear canister was absolutely needed because we made it no where near Sunrise HSC. Jim will be happy to know that there were plenty of bear cans. Weren't many people out on the Cloud's Rest trail. Most of them came through at night to be there for sunrise. Should I put my trip details here or in another thread? Thanks for all the help.by mbrocklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotetomdisco I've never know availability of cans to be an issue but then I have my own. Anybody else know of them ever running out of rental cans? Tom, I don't mean to be rude, but you don't seem to be as helpful as you think you are. First you were corrected about your thoughts on mandatory canisters. Then you speak of never hearing about the lack of bear canisters even though you haby mbrocklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was looking to avoid a can because one of the people going is a newbie and doesn't have a true pack. The toilets would have been nice too. My wife would never let me go without a can. I am also worried about there being any cans left by the time we get to TM. At this point you have all peer pressured me into trying to rent 2 cans and setup camp wherever. Basilbop, I am so fortunate that you posted this information. How did we backpack before the internet? I have a few questions for you, did you happen to see if the bear cabinets were at Sunrise Lake HSC? I'd prefer not to take a bear canister if I can avoid it. Also did you take JMT or the trail head from Tenaya lake? We have (3) 30 year olds leaving at Tenaya Lake about 3pm on Saturdby mbrocklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
