As a group leader I think it imperative that there be a leader who is familiar with the intended course, track or trail AND another with similar knowledge to act as what I call a sweeper. The names identify clearly their rolls on the trail. To follow up on my posted question, we have no intention to hang food. However, we may hang overflow toiletries and such. The focus of my question was whether or not steps need to be taken to in one way or another bear-proof first aide kits. We are headed into bear country Thursday and are pretty much ready to roll. However, there have been numerous discussions on what exactly we have to worry about regarding bears. We know all of the obvious or normal items that need to be in bear cannisters. Most of the discussion has centered around first aide kits. Our cannisters are filled to the rim. With White Wolf closed I am wondering whether the backpacker's campground is even open and if so what the conditions might be. I use backpacker's campgrounds virtually every time I'm in the park so I am familiar with the basics.............but thanks for the refresher anyway.by bigpapa - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I have a group of 6 heading down-river starting at Tuolumne on Aug. 20. Been trying to reach a human up at Tuolumne for weeks now. The phone rings until it hangs up. This blog seems to be the only reliable source of information out there. Our plan is to do the 19th at the Tuolumne Backpacker's campground then head out in the a,m. on the 20th. We will be exiting at White Wolf on the 25th or 2by bigpapa - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
