One clue is that, if you check online reservations, every date for Tuolumne Lodge has a diagonal line through it. Regarding the "Sorry you cancelled" message, it's a canned reply regardless of who made the cancellation. Agreed, Aramark should post a notice on the web site stating that the High Sierra Camps, Tuolumne and White Wolf Lodges will not open this summer.by LRK - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Last year's excuse for not opening Tuolumne Lodge was lack of employees. The general store was open, although the Grill was closed. I just searched the YosemitePark.com web site, and they have marked every date for Tuolumne with a slash. That leads me to believe they probably won't open. I have reservations, however so far I have had no word from Aramark about Tuolumne not opening.by LRK - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
When I have been unable to see where the trail goes, especially on granite fields, I have found cairns very helpful.by LRK - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
To the best of my knowledge, Delaware North, the previous operators for Yosemite, currently operate SEKI. Agreed about Aramark. I too have Tuolumne Lodge reservations for this summer, and haven't heard a word as to whether Aramark is planning to keep it closed this summer. I wonder what the rationale for closing Bager Pass is, given the record snowfall.by LRK - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Last summer I saw three people carving their initials into a tree on the Washburn Trail to the Mariposa Grove. I told them that it was illegal and bad for the tree. They had no idea you're not supposed to deface trees, and said they had seen someone else carve their name. They did stop carving, but who knows if they continued later. I think that people have a responsibility to say something,by LRK - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Maybe the Hiker's bus? I don't think the Tuolumne Shuttle is running this year. In any event, I don't think it went as far as White Wolf. Hopefully you can find someone at the Tuolumne Store who may be going back to White Wolf. But I'm not sure when the store opens, either.by LRK - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I would feel spooked. I haven't seen a bear in Yosemite since one invaded my campsite in Tuolumne Campground about 5 years ago. However, I too, hike alone, and would like input from others.by LRK - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Those shoes look like they may have enough support. However, I prefer shoes with higher ankle support, as my ankles tend to wobble.by LRK - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I'm thinking of a 4-night backpack in late August, 2 nights Young Lakes, then 2 nights Glen Aulen. I was at Young Lakes this past summer with my brother and niece, but will be going solo this year. I'm older, hike at a slower pace, so am curious to know how far Glen Aulen would be from Young Lakes. Because I'll be starting out on the weekend, I prefer to do Young Lakes first, as it should be leby LRK - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

If only the Park Service had the personnel to at least enforce speed laws within the park (might gain some revenue too). This is so sad. I've seen so many cars driving at reckless speeds throughout the park and outside.by LRK - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Pretty scary to read how many people think they need to carry a gun. Guns kill, period. We're no longer living in trapper days. Guns don't belong in the wilderness, let alone the national parks. And, please, Realist, the spelling is Mt. Rainier. Talk about the killing there, if the killer hadn't had a gun in the first place, no one would have been dead.by LRK - General Discussion
