Unfortunately, after 21 seasons as a volunteer, the yelp review on Yosemite was right. People want 'their' park to always be available but busy weekends, mid summer, holidays overwhelm the system. The issues are continually being worked on but for the most part it is a matter of supply and demand and parking in Yosemite is way beneath the demand.by yosemitedawn - General Discussion
My hope is that employees at all levels from housekeeping to management will have better working conditions and relationships which should make for a happier workplace and in turn make the visitors happier campers. As a 21 season volunteer I knew too many people in all areas who were unhappy with their jobs but wanted to be in the park. I also know managers, house cleaners and others who leftby yosemitedawn - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Trouble is . . .we don't want them wrecking our car but I hate hearing the crunch under the tires of even the fleabag squirrels! However missing a critter of any kind at a slow speed probably also will allow you to miss oncoming traffic which in Yosemite is basically an issue no matter where you are in the park in a vehicle.by yosemitedawn - General Discussion

Having spent 21 volunteer seasons in Yosemite . . .I can only mirror whatMarkskor says. In an ideal world the system would work great. In the Yosemite world of summer, just get to know your fellow passengers and have a good timeby yosemitedawn - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Doesn't make it any nicer to see the devestation but there will probably be a lot of wild flowers, starting with Lupine.by yosemitedawn - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Looking good!!! And his background is pretty sharp as well. No tracking info please as he should remain the endangered, well traveled and well loved creature that he is.by yosemitedawn - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful set of memories. We may not have been to every one but certainly can identify a lot of them. At 76 and 93 we are not doing those hikes any more but we can still enjoy others doing them. Dawnby yosemitedawn - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Ok . . . .from a 21 season volunteer who tent camped all 21 seasons, the answer to either tent cabins or housekeeping night visits to the john, is a 2 qt bottle which you empty in the morning. Saves all that wandering around and dodging bears, other campers and who knows what else in the dark of the night.by yosemitedawn - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Why are they giving this individual all this free publicity? Shouldn't they just wait until the law takes her in or whatever since from what I have read, they know who it is.by yosemitedawn - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
None of us want to see it but on some summer weekends it looks almost this bad and may well continue since the concessionaire continues to rent rafts.by yosemitedawn - General Discussion
Thank you so much for the trip description and the great photos. Vicarious is how we do it these days at 76 and almost 93 but we had some of the same fun when we started so many years ago. 21 seasons in a tent in the valley allowed us to do a lot of exploring and many were the trips where we spent all day out, saw many lakes, streams and peaks and often no one but us. I have tried all the new stuff from Eucalyptus Oil to dryer sheets and I too will stick with Deet. In a bad year at the park it was the only thing that really worked. Dawnby yosemitedawn - General Discussion

Not meaning this as tacky . . .but Yosemite is the wilds and power will often come and go with the storms. I have had contact with the group here in SD about the Tioga cam and they are trying but the phone lines are old and that is not their issue. I did see Happy Isles updated this morning and have to admit the views from Sentinel and Turtleback are gorgeous but cold.by yosemitedawn - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Unfortunately many today in all areas of life think of it as a "me first" world without thinking ahead. I would like to think all of us would start thinking of being less part of the problem and more part of the solution. Reread some of the posts and have to add we finished 19 seasons as volunteers for NPS/Yosemite Conservancy, all of this time in a tent in a campsite! We are hoping if health holds to be back for season twenty next May. We are definitely Yosemiteholics.by yosemitedawn - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
