Quoteeeek Park and take a shuttle plans have been discussed for decades and they always die because there is no place to park all those cars that is close enough to the Valley to practical. I disagree. There is room in El Portal and (i kinda hate to say it) Foresta for parking and shuttle services into the Valley. Edit: The reason these talks die is huge opposition from the public and concby dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
yes - about a mile below. The trail is clear well past Union Point and then becomes snow covered near the top in sketchy traverse area. Some people were hiking through that area but I would not recommend it for another couple of weeks.by dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
yes the snow level got down to like 2200 feet. The sun is out now and I suspect most the foothill snow will gone before the end of the day. I hear Badger area got 4 - 5 feet. We needed it!by dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Drove by on Saturday. The road grade and the wall are both fixed but the fixed section of road is not paved. Maybe it will close again for a day or two for paving / final touches.by dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteeeek At least the ruling will make NPS look at some of the problems with stock use. They were sort of taking a look at it this summer as apart of the over plan. There was a document open for public comment here: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectID=33225 but it appears to be closed now. I sent them my input but so far I have not heard back regarding any outcomes. Moreby dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hey Steve - Thanks so much for your comments. Half Dome is certainly an emotional issue no matter which side of the issue you stand on. I understand your concerns about cutting off the wilderness to "non-climbers" and others who may not have the means (physical/financial/or otherwise). That is certainly something that must be seriously considered. While you obviously disagree with my pby dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Wow! what is with some of you people!?! "...the trail to HD is not wilderness?" "...screw future generations?" ".. I don't want to carry and ID on the trail" Everyone needs step step back and realize this is not about YOU and how easy it is for YOU to plan a HD trip or if YOU need to carry an ID on the trail: Boo F-in Hoo. Hites Cove if it's open. It was still closed last I checked two weeks ago. Hites Cove trailhead is on the 140 about 15 miles west of the valley.by dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotequmqats Is the Wilderness permit office still open in the Valley? With the new permit system, when do you need to show up / get in line, for a next day entry permit? I'll be in the valley next week and weather depending I might do some backpacking. I haven't gotten a permit since the change and want to make sure I'm there early enough, but not too early. In case anyone was wondering the snow is mostly gone (as of Saturday Evening). The road to May lake is closed due to construction but is snow free. The trails are snow free but we ran into significant snow off-trail on North facing slopes. We even saw a few small-ish lakes with completely frozen surfaces. Also, just a reminder - you can now self-issue wilderness permits in Tuolumne but theby dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Last weekend my hike to May Lake involved over a foot of snow. Has anyone been up in the area in the last couple of days? I am hoping to go back tomorrow but I want to go (mostly) snow-free. Any info greatly appreciated! Darrenby dbagnall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
