The chick-on feats never cease to amaze us...I guess you could say we are very easily entertained!! "Muirman", myself, my nephew and his girlfriend were at Sentinel Dome on Monday and were trying to figure out where exactly the webcam was and if we could to do the exact same thing! Classic!by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We will be taking my nephew and his girlfriend to Yosemite the week of April 30th, so unless something crazy happens, is The Mist usually open (offically) by then? Also, any guess on Glacier Pt Rd? Our other hope was to do Senitnel dome to Taft Pt. We are also going to check out some trails around Hetch Hetchy later in the week, thinking of Wapama Falls. I know we need to be careful with waterby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Very cool pics - Thanks for sharing! Spent the 26th and 27th in the park. Hiked to Elizabeth Lake on the 26th. The snow at the lake was just enough to be frustrating (for me & hubby at least). Definitely wasn't enough for snowshoes, but just enough to be shin deep and not able to support any kind of weight. Enjoyed being at frozen Tenaya and watching a great hockey game! Made me miss myby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'm assuming there isn't one at North Dome or in the Elizabeth Lake area? If the weather remains decent, The hubby and I are planning on hiking both next week. I like the idea of trying to find as many of these as possible. Our uncle owns a land surveying business back in Ohio and loves when we send him pics of markers.by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Great video! We were on the cathedral lakes trail over thanksgiving weekend and saw about 2 dozen skaters on Tioga lake on the way out. We thought that was early in the season to be skating. Is Tenaya deeper than Tioga? I was also amazed at how smooth the lake froze, it was like mother natures zamboni had created perfect ice. I would love to skate on Tenaya for my birthday next week, hopinby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Oh chick-on, you poor thing having to hang on that ledge for your dear life! Someone should have put a safety harness around you! Lol! These pics are truly amazing!! Ttilley, maybe I'm using the wrong exact point, but when we hiked out to the fissures/Taft point this summer there was a railing right by the geological survey marker. Maybe this point is referred to as something else? I'm a neby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I could barely get myself onto Taft point with the railing! I secretly envy these people too!by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you for all the tips and advice. That picture makes my stomach go in knots just thinking about slipping/falling! And that story from calipidder would be in the front of my mind with every step! We are looking for a trail(s) to hike during the winter months and were thinking this might be an option, but from the sounds of it is probably closed.by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. As a newbie to the board, I was wondering if I could get some advice on hiking the Mist Trail at this time of year. Obviously weather/conditions remaining equal, what would the trail be like? Is it icy from the waterfalls? Is it hikeable? How far can you hike on it? Would you recommended it? Any thoughts/suggestions would be great! I apologize in advance for such novice questions! :-)by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Mr. Chick-On, Any chance you would do a group hike to this mystical place one day? Thanks for the link, now I have a pic to go with the daydream!by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
What an awesome trip you have planned! I'm very curious about Table Lake, post some pictures for all of us. Just a quick suggestion on the food, I take along Sun Warrior Protein Powder - chocolate or vanilla is great tasting. Don't be scared off by the fact that is a vegan protein powder, my husband is the carnivor of carnivors and loves this stuff. I find protein powders are an easy way to gby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Happy Thanksgiving to all you Yosemite Lovers! I am so thankful for all that I have, but in regards to Yosemite, here's my list! I am thankful for having visted Yosemite in all 4 Seasons this year (February, June, Sept, Oct) I am thankful that I saw Yosemite in a state of peace (very few tourists) in February. What magnificent and powerful silence! I am thankful that I saw the falls in Juby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
TomDisco - Thanks for the note above, we got a kick out of the picture and knew there had to be a good story behind it once we saw where it was on the map! Everything went great on our hikes. We were able to hike to Glen Aulin, which we've deemed "Glen Awesome" and even saw a small bear 30 yards in front of us on the hike from Taft Point to Sentinel Dome! We also hiked Gaylor Lakes aby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks to everyone for all the great tips and suggestions! We love all the ideas that everyone has offered, thank you! Not sure what is up with the Table Lake discussion, we are thinking that it's either pure torture to get there or that it's a backcountry brothel? LOL! Thanks for all the birthday wishes too! Thanks so much for all the great tips/other ideas on hikes and advice! We are so excited to get down there and that the weather, so far, seems to be holding up!by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks qumqats for the recommendation on Gaylor Lakes, we will definitely take that route. I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather for your hikes now too! We plan to be on the trail early and to turn around at Glen Aulin, don't think we'll be able to make it to waterwheel falls. And thanks eeek for the time reminders, the days are definitely getting shorter. :-) My husband and I areby JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My husband, sister, and I are planning on spending 4 days in Yosemite next week for my sister's 50th birthday! We would like to hike out/back to Glen Aulin on one of the days, as well as the following on the other days: Lambert Dome/Gaylor Lakes, and Pohono Trail. Any tips (besides celebrating the big birthday!) on the trail conditions or general hike information would be greatly appreciated.by JRo27 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
