Thanks so much for the report. I did Ediza to Minaret Lake several years ago. Such a great area. Been wanting to go up Volcanic Ridge for a long time. Really need to make it up there.by yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I had not done any backpacking for a couple of years. Had a permit for Ashley Lake on 7/9. We were watching the Mammoth webcams closely for smoke from the Lions Fire. It was usually clear in the morning with smoke coming in the afternoons. It looked do able, but we checked to see what other permits were available. We switched the permit to Kearsarge Lakes. The Georges Fire broke out a few hby yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Interesting how Waterwheel and the un-named falls both hit a ridge at the bottom with a large rock, make a turn and have a large tree. Still look similar to me, if I look at that part. Just need to start day hike earlier next time, or back pack it. Great trip anyway.by yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I park on Tioga Road just west of Mariuolumne Dome to start up Polly Dome. Head SW to Low Profile Dome, which also has great views for very little effort. Head west from there through the forest, and then SW for ever increasing views.by yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Oh Man, I get so confused in the GCT. I thought the bottom of that cascade looks like the bottom of Waterwheel. So many cascades on the Tuolumne that it gets kind of mind numbing. First went to the GCT about 15 years ago. We reached California Falls, and a friend didn't want to go any further, and we thought oh that must be Waterwheel. Returned in 2011. Definitely went past Wildcat Point anby yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Headed up to the Eastern Sierra on Memorial Day. Thought about hiking up to Green Lake Bishop, but there was more snow than I wanted to deal with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7wkI_G39Yc Checked out the Gable Lakes trail at Pine Creek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9mQ5gsVYA8 Headed up to Tuolumne and looked around Tenaya Creek and Polly Dome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vby yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Made it up to Yosemite for a few days last Saturday. Didn't need chains on 140, or in the valley. We enjoyed some nice snow fall in mild temperatures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW0j-gVgDFY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkFWHvIpjEo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4qgpnadQ-8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKnHnjWyRvM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUylmlF95vgby yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Used to be that you could use the internet to get cheap hotels. Now the hotels all use on demand pricing, and jack up prices whenever demand is high.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

You want to check out the Moods of California exhibit at the Irvine Museum, if you are near Irvine, CA Some nice Sierra paintings. Only one Yosemite painting, but it is a great one by Thomas Hill. The Thomas Hill painting is similar to this one of Yosemite Falls http://www.thomas-hill.org/Bridle-Veil-Fall-Yosemite.html It is strangely named Bridal Veil Fall on the page above. Cool stuff. Thanks for posting. What dates did you go? I tried to get up there a couple weeks ago, but couldn't time it right, with Tioga Road closing. At least I got to see your pictures .Great view near Fairview looking north. Great airplane shot above Saddlebag Lake. Took me a minute to get oriented. Anyone have info on Kaiser Pass Road? Last I saw HWY 168 was open. Wondering it Kaiser Pass Road would be open to Potter Pass trailhead next week. Looks like McKinley Grove Road to Courtright Reservoir is scheduled to close 12/1. Tioga Road is temporarily closed. Hopefully it won't close for the season yet.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I went up from Murphy Creek trail. Passed Harlequin Dome probably a 1/4 mile and headed east. Then headed SE path of least resistance.
