Last August it would have been Cathedral Lakesby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the info. I was there last August 21st and it was bone dry from Cathedral Lakes to the JMT/Clouds Rest junction and there was barely a trickle there. We might push on to Cathedral this year too.by calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Last year by this time there was no water at the creek or the camp. Does anyone know the conditions this year??? I would like to camp there August 6th. Thanks for any infoby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks for the info. I booked my sites. My daughter and I are camping & climbing (Mt. Dade & Clouds Rest) right after Fathers Day. Tuolomne Campground is greatby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Does anyone know or have a guess as to when the Tuolomne Meadows Campground might really open. I know the first day for reservations is July 11th, but I would think in a really low snow year they would open sometime in June?by calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Going to do the JMT with my wife in August, 20 days to make it nice and peaceful for her. Staying in Tuolomne Meadows prior and warming up on Clouds Rest. Looking forward to it. Besides that, continue working on the 14er's and Emblem Peaksby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Good looking photos, I am impressedby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
They are both nice but I would go with Onion Valley. Kearsarge Pass, Bubbs Creek, Forester Pass, the basin south of Forester and Bighorn Plateau make it tough to beat. There are so many side peaks along the way to enhance the experience. Crowd factor shouldn't be bad as there are some out of this world camping opportunities. The weather was perfect Friday and Saturday till sundown. Then it got windy (15-25 mph with stronger gusts) and started to snow around 11:00 pm, maybe two inches overnight. Sunday morning was cold and occasionaly snowy, probably another couple of inches on the way out.by calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
They plow up till Badger Pass. We needed the four wheel drive without chains to get up there.by calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We snowshoed, but the skiing looked fantastic off the road. These are from the weekend of January 4-6by calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Went on a quick weekend trip to an area just east of Sentinel Dome to take in some winter scenery. There is a solid four feet of coverage from Badger Pass out to Glacier Point. The road is nice and groomed but powder fluff off of it. So here are a few photos to pass the time........by calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Originally I planned to do a north rim backpack trip next week (October 8-12) starting at Happy Isles and ending at Yosemite Falls, but with the lack of water on the north rim I am altering the itinerary. I can get a car shuttle so was thinking of going Happy Isles to Merced Lake to Vogelstang To Lyell Canyon and out at Tuolomne. I wanted to possibly camp at Babcock and Ireland Lakes. Anybody havby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you all for your comments, I appreciate them greatly. My camera uses a lithium ion battery that performed great. I brought two and kept them charged on my zero day in Bishop and again at Reds Meadow. I wasn't on Mather Pass on August 8th, but I was on Kearsargeby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I backpacked the High Sierra Trail and the John Muir Trail from August 3rd to August 21st. It was quite the experience as the weather did not fully cooperate. I became intimately familiar with Thunderstorms. Here are some photos........you can see more and more of the photos at: http://calicokat.smugmug.com/Hiking/Sierra-Nevada There are Topo Maps of my entire journey to see as well and some vidby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Great looking location to camp. We are heading up that way October 8-12 for a Happy Isles To Yosemite Falls Loop with stops at Half Dome, Clouds Rest, Mt. Watkins and North Dome. Would love to camp at this site on the last night. Where exactly is the site located. I have a Tom Harrison that shows a .5 mile to the summit of North Dome, where from there is is locatedby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I took a snowshoe trip out to Dewey Point, then a photography side trip to the valley floor and finally a hike through the Upper & Lower Mariposa Groves. It looks like Snow Creek crosses at the footbridge. Is that the last place to get water before North Dome??? It looks like the trail parallels Snow Creek for a couple of miles going north. Can I get water along the way or at least closer to North Dome??? Just don't want to carry a ten liter bag of water any farther than necessaryby calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Thank you all for the info. I want to visit and perhaps camp on top of or near Mt. Watkins one day and North Dome the next. Water will be the main issue. I have a ten liter dromedary bag that I could suffer with. The stream 1.25 miles west of Olmstead looks pretty good for the Watkins water situation, but what about water for North Dome???by calicokat - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hello all, long time follower. I will be backpacking in a loop this October going from Happy Isles (hopefully) and ending at the bottom of Yosemite Falls with a shuttle back to wherever my car ends up. I have a question on itinerary. We are camping at the Clouds Rest/JMT junction then going up to Tenaya Lake. I want to get a couple of miles down the trail towards North Dome from the lake.
