Boy I wish I would have started doing TR's a lot earlier, still want to post old trips. Anyhow, as per usual I couldn't wait to get back, so were on the road at 2 am from sea level. We were on the trail at around 8ish Saturday morning with plenty of cloud coverage, thank goodness. Nice steady incline the whole way up, but I didnt really notice it until the way out. Spent two nights at these beautby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Just this past weekend, some friends and myself went to the Cottonwood/Langley area to celebrate a friends birthday.. As usual, I couldnt wait to get back, so we just left at 8pm last Friday evening. After stopping several times for food, ice cream, and number 1, we're at the trailhead. My passengers were sleeping, waking every so often, for the most part I was wide awake. The other half of the gby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Yea, Chris Ryerson is a total badass. He hikes for 4-5 months, all in a row, alone, every year. I hiked Tioga peak with him couple years back. My buddy and some of his friends usually join Chris yearly for smaller loops every year. He gets out there, way out there.QuoteKenSby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Last Wednesday we could here it the whole time we were at Matthes. At lower Cathedral on the way back it started raining pretty good. The lightning was right above us as we hiked down.by cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Forgot to mention the mosquitoes were never really bad at all. The worse was actually on Clouds rest trail around 6 am. Even still wasnt that bad, only over a certain stretch. Thunder clouds were near almost every day also. We heard thunder more than half the days of our trip. Paris92 It was a great hike, my second time. Saw about 50 backpackers heading to Sunrise HSC on my way down. All Childby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
This is my first trip report. I could have done a couple others, but always though they were too rookie for you pros. I now wish I had done them, who knows maybe I will, years late. This week long trip starts with me and a friend leaving Los Angeles area at 2 am. I couldnt wait to get back, so I didnt sleep more then an hour. We were off by 230. So, Mr peak bagger was tired after clouds rest, hoffman, and several other peaks, so he joined us. Went straight to Matthes, then hit all the other lakes on the way back. At lower cathedral it was a bit hairy with lightning. Literally right above us. We just dropped straight down to the 120. It was loud. This drive back 120 we saw what appeared to be a fire near Lembert, and somewhere else on thby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Saw lightning/thunder 3 days straight, canceled this due to lack of gear.by cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yeah they were there, ran up to Gardisky/Tioga peak. Just odd that whoever manages the email for that resort is unaware of them. Thanks againby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Several other hikes in TM, barely any of the blood suckers. There were some, but not bad at allby cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Are there any bear boxes at the Gardisky Lake trailhead off saddlebag lake road (2 miles east of tioga pass)? Or are there any public ones nearby? Obviously the campsites (ellery, junction, sawmill, saddlebag) have one, but are there any public ones nearby? The ranger wasnt 100% sure. Also, dumb question, my bear box is 33x45x18. Well, my cooler is literally 18.5, so I guess it wont fit, right? Nby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I was able to see the sunset and sunrise from clouds rest. Sunrise and set from clouds rest was one of the best moments of my life. I was all alone at the top, while my friend stayed below to get the shot of suns rays on CR as they rose. Ill be doing the loop from rafferty TH to vogelsang to lyell TH. Not sure if well get Lyell or Rafferty permits, so not sure which way well go. Regardless, where is a good place to sleep? The HSC? Ireland lake, Evelyn lake? Ive heard Evelyn can be very windy. Main concern, wind. We are not bringing tents or bivys. Trip is in mid Julyby cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yeah, four hours, that helps. I would like to think I can do it in 6, easily, including stops at echo and upper cathedral. Theres just one stickler in the group who doesnt want to do lake hikes. hes a peak bagger through and through. ill let you know how it goes. trip is T minus 3 weeks....by cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
B B B Bird is the word, thanks man... Ya if I have time to wait in line at 11 for permit, ill spend night and take echo creek back.by cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Starting at Cathedral lakes TH, how far is the hike to Matthes lake, stopping by echo lake along the way? Think its possible for a day hike (below 14 miles I suppose)? Also, it appears to be pretty easy cross country, is this true? Not too much in the way.by cantwait2getback - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
