Thank you Eeeek for that data point, revising our time to 6.30, ideally earlier. Thursday isn't as good as Sunday, but better than Friday or Saturday, which were our other options. Gonna be up there with my brother and his family, flying in from Germany, so not too much flexibility in the dates. Anyone know if one person can get two sites? my wife will get the second one, but would be more fby Arendi - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Going on our first family camping trip in Yosemite, we try to cross our ts and dot the is in the preparation phase. A big part of that for me is creating a safe camp site.. but our older one is potty training, so we were thinking (to make it easier at night) of keeping his potty in the tent for the unavoidable nightly business. Does that pose an attraction to wild life (you know, "scented&by Arendi - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
That looks like a good deal! I will go get one of those, since I am likely overestimating my time line as far as doing back country hikes. For that it seems to be too heavy, buy should hold up great for the car camping trips. Thanks for the recommendation!by Arendi - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I wouldn't have started a thread just for this, but since you're talking tent recommendations.. I'm looking for a 3 season tent for my little family (me 6'2", wife 5'4", and 2 kiddos (2yrs and 3 yrs)). Have an old 8 person tent, but that is not much fun. Right now just for car camping, but planning on doing weekend trips next year. Any recommendations?by Arendi - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I also have the Lumia 520, haven't taken it hiking but here is something cool it (or any other phone) can do: Real time location on geo-referenced pdf maps. You need a geo-referenced pdf map, which can be googled (USGS says their pdfs are) and a free app called "PDF Maps" from Avenza (in beta stage for windows phone, in store for android and iphone). QuoteDavidK42 While I applaud the efforts to keep unsafe vehicles and drivers off the road, I'm unclear...are these inspections on buses that are in the act of giving "tours" (presumably so or why would they be in the Park)? If so, what happens to the people on the tours when their bus is taken out of service? I imagine the tour company has to send a backup bus up to Yosemite pronto.by Arendi - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hello everybody, I got so much good information from here, and I barely found time to post about our trip. A little warning beforehand, the wife and me, we're beginning our life as hikers and have so far been merely to "touristy" places, so if you're looking for extraordinary trails or pictures, this is not the thread for you. Also, apologies if it bores you June 7th-8th We fby Arendi - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
