Having been to Arches on three separate occasions and having returned this past September, I wonder what a reservation system means? We knew well in advance of the road construction within the park and the daily 7 PM closure. Nonetheless, we still chose to return to Moab and enjoy other locations we'd been to previously. Though I've not read the plan, I would have thought a shuttle system woulby Acadia - General Discussion
Duh. Though I'm not familiar with the Mammoth Stamp Mill Site, I'm very familiar with Bodie's stamp mile. Given the nature of extracting silver and gold and the chemicals involved in the late 1800's, assayers often suffered from lead and arsenic poisoning. It's no wonder contaminated soil is found.by Acadia - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Great read! Bodie is truly remarkable! Rhyolite - not so much. But the stories of these ghost towns and others are fascinating.by Acadia - General Discussion
You'll find a sampling of Bristlecone pines at Yovimpa Point in Bryce. The King of them all has to be the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest East of Bishop. Definitely a must see.by Acadia - General Discussion
Ideally, planning to visit any National Park should be done well in advance, months preferably, especially if you wish to stay in the park which you've already done. With respect to Bryce, if you can't stay at the Bryce Canyon Lodge I highly recommend staying at the Best Western Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel. If your on a budget then Ruby's is a decent alternative. Here's a perfect opportunity for the NPS to use drones to monitor these sites and catch those who disturb and or remove artifacts that belong to all of us. We just returned from JTNP, our third visit since 2009, and have noticed the addition of new sites that were not publicized before.by Acadia - General Discussion

We've visited the Big Island on several occasions usually during September. Rains can be heavy during the springtime. Sights not to be missed are Volcano National Park, Anaehoomalu Beach (AKA ABAY), Green Sand Beach, hike down to Pololu, hike across the Kilauea Iki crater and our favorite location for the absolute serenity - Pu'uhonua o Honaunau at sunset.by Acadia - General Discussion
On our first of many trips to DV I recall an incredible evening my wife and I had. September. Before the massive washout. At midnight, we drove to Zabriskie Point. Walked to the top. Totally alone. Opened a bottle of wine. Bathed in the light of a full moon that reflected off of the Panamint mountains to our West. And a gentle breeze coming across the valley with temps around 90 degrees.by Acadia - General Discussion

I wholeheartedly agree with removing unnecessary cairns (as we call them here in New England) particularly in the Sierra where you can plot a fanciful course almost as far as the eye can see. But...in the White Mountains of NH, they can be a godsend at elevation when you can't see 10 feet in front of your face because the cloud deck has obscured the trail. Many a time have I thanked those yelloby Acadia - General Discussion
