Just curious if anyone has been up yet and what conditions are like heading toward the right/North Dome direction and also to the left toward Eagle Peak Meadow toward El Cap. Thinking about making a short trip in late June. Sure much will change by then. Also betting with all the water the bugs that way may be more like they are on the Snow Creek Trail! Thanks for any insight! - Tedby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks Basilbop for the advice! wondered how the crossing would be so will start at the trailhead! excited to get out there again! Tedby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
This will be my first time hiking down Yosemite Creek this weekend. I have gone up to Eagle Peak area before from valley floor but am going to try it from the Yosemite Creek trailhead. Since follows the river wanted to get a read on how bad the evil critters are - hopefully nowhere close to the mosquitoes along Snow Creek trail? Thanks for any advice! Tedby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi going to enter Yosemite Creek trailhead next week. did the online ranger briefing yesterday and asked if ok to park at Yosemite Creek Campground and start there but she mentioned you could but road is closed. Just wanted to pass on to verify if sounds accurate to the super knowledgeable folks here and and as an FYI from what I heard yesterday. Nice to be back in Yosemite! - Tedby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks again guys! was going to postpone this until next year but with all the snow happening now I am excited to give this one a go. Appreciate all the great advice on this forum!by Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Kevin, thanks so much for the advice - much appreciated! I was afraid the snow would be light or non-existent. Such a change from last year but thanks for letting me know! Tedby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi have so far done all my backpacking throughout Yosemite May-October but in want to start adding the winter experience. As I am recovering from a broken toe from running was thinking about quick trip from bay area, stay overnight at the relatively new hotel just outside the 120 entrance, drive up the road and do a day snow shoe to Dewey point and back. Have never done the snow shoes so not suby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Hi all just back from quick overnight with my wife to Rancheria Falls area and want to finally get this hike on the calendar! Want to follow advice and go from White Wolf to Tuolmne or exit at May Lake. Make it a leisurely hike in July most likely. QUESTION: it doesn't look like there is shuttle from Tuolmne or May Lake that goes all the way to White Wolf area so looks like a 10 mile walk onby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
thank you again. NOT tmi! will noodle on this a bit more and finalize. very much appreciated as this is a new part of Yosemite for me! Tedby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Revised route per the comments/advice. THANKS. Mileages and elevation change seems reasobable for me. would likely stay in backpacker campground night before just to acclimate. Revised campsite toward end so at spot in a meadow that looks to be where Yosemite Creek starts -map says it is Halfmoon Meadow and looks to be flat spot (better spot Chick on than previous spot you noted might not beby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thank you guys for the awesome advice! Will definitely do in reverse, starting at White Wolf, go up looking at water, avoid Lembert, etc. Below is a link to revised route with camps at Chick-On's spots (Pate, Cathedral, etc - the tent icons show the spots). Did I get the recommendations right? Ok to park at White Wolf (spot I have never been to). Excited to see a whole new part of the park.by Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Plan good or any suggestions? Do this in mid to late August or early September. Little over 60 miles total. Maybe stay in backpacker Tuolomne camp first night to acclimate to elevation and relax. Last night maybe take car down to valley stay at Lodge for shower and Curry Pizza Deck for restaurant at Lodge for a steak! Day 1: start on trail near 120 near Lembert end near Waterwheel Falls, goby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Guys, thanks much for advice. yes that's the route. Really appreciate the advice on water/timing. I still have pic posting issues though I've read the link on how to post via FB between the image tags using the mountain/sun button. it was a screen grab from Garmin basecamp draft route but that is the route. I am going to get the pic thing down as many time have wanted to post some trip reporby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Yes not much between Yosemite Falls toward North Dome. Did my first hike of the year few weeks back coming up Yosemite Falls, heading over toward Eagle Peak and El Cap and then back to North Dome to Mt Watkins then down Snow Creek. Couple nights at that great plateau under Basket Dome staring at Clouds Rest and Half Dome. Water was mostly non existent but coming by what I think was Porcupine Cby Tedbay - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I met the catwomen the day after it happened. her name was Helen from Belgium. I went down to the river in LYV to get some water (near where sunrise trail begins) and ran into a gorgeous girl barely dressed hanging out in the water washing her clothes! turned to go get water elsewhere but she said no its ok come back if you need water. Bearproof and JR: THANKS -wow great pics and advice. Never been to Mount Watkins but looks incredible and thanks for water advice. I am looking at Garmin Basecamp on the computer and am wondering if there is a spot off of the trail that leads towards Olmstead that is best to make the trek to Watkins (ie. do you have a waypoint you turn off off or just follow unmarked spot?). Hi got a new bigger backpack for Christmas and planning out next summer hikes. As part of the North Rim trek, I wanted to ask for advice for camping spots at North Dome, further on along the Snow Creek Trail (e.g. where the trail crosses river), and around Mt. Watkins that I have never been to before. Thanks for any advice or itinerary suggestions. Tedby Tedbay - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
For many years when I first moved to California from the Midwest I did over a hundred day hikes - with my kids when the were little who are now out of college or in it. Couple years back did my first backpack and find that one of my favorite places in the world is addictive and just draws me back wanting to see more. Couple weeks back did a week long hike on my own, last weekend amazing hike wiby Tedbay - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Plawrence, Read my original post which is why I posted - this girl said she was stalked who I spoke to. The ranger I spoke to said this was the third encounter this year and that they were seeing one at both the restrooms near Nevada falls and little Yosemite. The girl I met was up near sunrise and was stalked - in her tent all night with the animal outside scratching a tree, making sounds allby Tedbay - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Week long solo backpack from Tuolumne to various high sierra lakes above 10,000 feet then down to Yosemite Valley Floor. Unbelievably beautiful hiking up high. Approaching Yosemite my entrance was shut down so had to detour for 2 hours to get to get in. Leaving, I could see the firecrews, Hotshots, the Rim Fire/pyro cumulus clouds from the fire on the north side of the Tioga road. Here are some oby Tedbay - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
