Quotestreger This is all very good advice and I will just reiterate that you should do what calls to you. If backpacking in the woods is what does it, then pick a route. If you could take or leave long walks with a pack on your back, then do not miss the top sights. I'm purty sure I told Patsfan to maybe not go to Rancheria in July .... it gonna be H.O.T. there!" (I think you hit the heat wave smack on too btw) Anywho... glad you had fun... As a fellow East coaster and noob who just returned from a twelve day odyssey that ranged from Hetch Hetchy to Glen Aulin to Little Yosemite Valley up Half Dome finishing with Ostrander Lake and Mariposa Grove I would simply say you can not go wrong with any of it. Quoteplawrence Through June 30th, REI is having a sale in which much of ExOfficio Bugsaway and Columbia's Insect Blocker apparel (including shirts and pants) are between 20% to 35% off their normal retail price. Quotetomdisco QuoteKen M Regarding Permethrin: I work for several months each summer as a volunteer ranger and trail crew leader. We have to be out in bad conditions. I have found permethrin to be a wonderful option. I don't know why some people have found the product to work less well in the last few years. HOWEVER, it has to be used correctly. Quotechick-on I'd just leave the small canister at home. You can stuff your stove and other items in the larger can for your shorter trip. Quotettilley Same thing with the Hetch Hetchy Area - P.O. along the trail to Rancheria Falls, especially the stretch after Wapama Falls, and on the climb from Hetch Hetchy towards Laurel Lake. Thanks to all! As usual, right on the money by all of you. I had not been stretching too much and have started a daily routine. Many years of football have led to a few maladies but left me with some knowledge of how to tape myself up. I was kinda hoping to avoid it on the trail though...tape = trash = weight etc etc etc. Last but not least would be less twinkies ( ice cream ) in my case. In my earnest effort to ensure an enjoyable experience for my upcoming arrival in Yosemite I may have pushed a bit too hard. We have a purifier so we should be good to go as far as the H20 goes. Running 2-3 miles a day... not so much. Being a large mammal is part of the reason hiking works for me, its not running. OK now that my families fears (founded or unfounded) have been eased i will only ask one more toopid question regarding bears.
