One additional data point, while @ REI in Sacramento, I wanted to ck out this backpacking boot. QuoteJustKeepWalking Thanks should go to plawrence for starting the thread! I'm just a gear-head and love trying and talking about gear! I'll definitely let you know about the Synthesis. It is actually still a Gore-Tex product, it's the design of the material and the shoe (breathability below foot as well) that is supposed to make this the most breathable of waterproof shoes. We shall see. Myby W7SG - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Add "heel raises" to the regiment. Post knee surgery the rehab included heel raises. My calf muscles were in great shape, so she had me do one foot at a time, 3 sets & work up the # of reps. Just stand behind a chair, do one at a time. For a little "advanced", put the ball of your foot on a book or brick & slowly go down until your heel touches the ground, carefulby W7SG - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Great points, thx. No doubt when the hydration pack is full, impact to the bottom of the feet will be more. I've leaned to a warm weather boot, not waterproof. Interesting reading the marketing on waterproof boots, some say "waterproof/breathable performance". W/O researching, I don't get how they can be both.by W7SG - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi all, What is your preference and why? I had Dunhams, soles were stiff, but not as comfortable as the Tactical Research boots I have now. On the other hand, with the TR boots, I can "feel" the shape of rocks, or other things on the trail, where the Dunhams I could not. Wonder what you prefer, comments welcome :-)by W7SG - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Steve, well put, you would have thought you were walking into the "Twilight Zone". LOL. I for one make it a point NOT to follow politics & I avoid the conversations. Our 1st trip to the Valley, we took our barbecue, lawn chairs & cooler. We sat in the meadow across from Yosemite Falls & barbecued. A Buck went through :-) While we were sitting there, that flat bed trailer with all the folks sitting in chairs. We waved to them, they waved back, big smiles on both sides. QuoteParis92 Looking to get a day pack. Something along the lines of the Osprey Manta 28 hydration pack. Anyone have other suggestions for a similar type and size day pack? 28L is about as large as I want to go. I was thinking 25L would be ideal for my purposes. When I am carrying my larger backpack I typically also have with me an REI Flash 18 pack. That pack is great, lightweight, but too smallby W7SG - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteeeek QuoteW7SG Hi all, Scored the Superfeet, Green, yesterday @ REI. Took them for a test drive for about a mile. They feel like they are breaking in. My ball of my right foot is still a little sore from the old thin insole, but they feel good. The heel is firmer than the old insoles. More to follow. Thx all. QuoteChlo83 Thank you so much for all the valuable advice and experiences. I think I'm going to get some. Ankle is still not massively happy with steep downhills and will give me a little extra stability. I will need ones that fold down at least a bit as travelling internationally.
