We recently did the hike from Tuolumne Meadows to Glen Aulin HSC and then onto May Lake HSC before hiking down to Tenaya Lake with our 7 year old. I got some really helpful advice from this forum so thought I'd post a trip report in case anyone else is considering doing this with kids and might find it helpful. We parked at Dog Lake and used the bear boxes there and then caught the shuttle buby Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the input - I think we will stick with plan A and 3 nights in Curry - 6 nights in Yosemite is going to be awesome. I've never been down as far as Waterwheel Falls so wasn't sure if it was worth swapping things round for. We will definitely do the Mist Trail and Glacier Point and will leave the park via Mariposa Grove on the last day. The Sentinel Dome hike is a good suggestion - aftby Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hi, We are planning a mini HSC trip with our 7 year old from the 8th of July. We are staying in TM to acclimatise then a night each in GA and ML. It will be her first overnight hiking trip so we want to make it comfortable so hopefully further down the track we can try her with proper backpacking. Have noticed that some space has opened up at GA and ML around our dates and am contemplatinby Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thank you so much for all the valuable advice and experiences. I think I'm going to get some. Ankle is still not massively happy with steep downhills and will give me a little extra stability. I will need ones that fold down at least a bit as travelling internationally. I can't find the Leki Makalu cork ones (they've probably renamed them) - has anyone tried the Leki Corklites? http://www.by Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My doctor is quite happy with me hiking and I'm also playing roller derby and running. Ankle surgeries normally take quite a long time to return to 110% as far as sports that demand a lot of stability go - I'm apparently doing a lot better than the norm. I still see my physio on a monthly basis to monitor progress. I've done some long days on it but not consecutively - hence contemplating hikiby Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Sooo I've been reluctantly persuaded that it would be a good idea to invest in some of these. I busted my ankle playing roller derby last summer and had two surgeries (boo!) and have gradually been getting back into hiking this year. The thing the ankle is still somewhat unsure about is steep downs (like steeper than a flight of stairs) so am being persuaded that poles woud be a good idea. Hi, We are doing a mini HSC loop from TM - GA - ML and then back down and will need to leave the car in TM. Which parking lots allow overnight parking and have bear boxes - is Lembert Dome an option? Thanksby Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks everyone - really appreciate the input and am feeling much reassured. She is very excited and loving her new pack. We did another practice hike at the weekend and my other half and I could barely keep up! Tip re water and giving her some jobs/little things to carry are great. Will also make sure to bring some of her favourite snacks over from Aus with us!by Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you so much for all the useful feedback. Really want to make sure the kidlet enjoys the trip and know the HSCs are cushy camping but think it will be less daunting for her than potentially arriving and pitching tents in the rain etc. I haven't heard of Picaridin insect repellents but will check it out - Deet does the job but does have an awkward habit of melting things! Thanks that makes sense with the trailheads. Park at the May Lake Road trailhead (not Tioga Rd) and walk up from there so the kidlet doesn't have to do ML Tioga Rd to ML trailhead. It's good to know that's something to avoid! Then when we arrive back in TM we can either wait there while someone gets the car, or possibly all get the shuttle together and I can take her to the beach by Tenaya Lby Chlo83 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hi there, Am hoping for some advice - I did a lot of hiking in Yosemite as a child and teenager but wasn't responsible for logistics and didn't do any overnight hikes (rest of the family weren't keen!). I currently live in Australia and am bringing my partner and his 7 year old daughter to visit Yosemite for the first time. She is an active kid and pretty fit.
