Thanks for your response tilley and your photos. They help me tremendously prepare for the trip this early in the season. I'd also like to thank Torero for his photos in this thread for anyone else looking for conditions - http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,66394,67088 Also - http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,64696,65097 - for last years snow levels at RPP in Late June. Wow such a stark contrast in snow levels - those comparison shots are crazy! Looks like I won't have much trouble avoiding snow in those passes.by Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hello all - longtime lurker, new member. I've learned a lot about conditions, trails and park events from this forum and I am very grateful for all of your advice and solutions. I ask your advice on best camping destinations and snow conditions as an experienced backpacker with moderate cross-country skills. Day 1 - June 15 Leave Los Angeles, arrive Tuolumne Ranger Station before 11am. Bby Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thank you thank you thank you! Great photos that show conditions very well and appreciate the write up as well. I agree with another in that you are braver than I to want to seek out that area knowing of snow/rain this early in the season! Glad to hear you are back safe and your condition descriptions will help me fit in Washburn (one of my favorites) to my 8 day loop via the RPP.by Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Thank you for digging this quote up. I had not seen the original thread and will definitely incorporate this on ym way to and from the park when convenient. Also, big thanks to Dave for suggesting the route initially.by Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the info Ulysses. I x-countried through 80% coverage from the Tenaya Lake trailhead my last trip to Sunrise third week of June 2008. Heading up that sheer rock face with a 60+ lb pack and all my camera gear for an 8 day trip was probably not the smartest planning.by Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuoteKlas The lower canyon is not too wet, just some muddy spots on the trail, but no concern about finding a dry pitch. Soon enough the fog of bugs will be thicker than the mud... Thanks for the update! My attitude is if the bugs are being too pesky and swarmlike then I'm not at a high enough altitude.by Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
More important to take down the sellers then the buyers imo. Last thing we need is a backcountry permit black market.by Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you very much for the pictures. Can you give any idea on the conditions in lower Lyell Canyon between the glacier and Tuolumne? The wilderness rangers report that it is extremely wet and muddy per usual, but there are still penty of places to camp right? It hasn't been flooded to the point where tent camping will be unsustainable for the environment? Any pictures would be appreciated.by Backpackin-Life - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Always check the Yosemite National Park Wilderness Conditions page before you head up - http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wildcond.htm They specifically mention current conditions at Sunrise and Cathedral as on June 7: "The Sunrise and Cathedral Lakes areas are 30% snow-covered and the lakes themselves are clear of ice.
