Balazacom, there's another route in/out to Hyatt from W Fork I've done. I wouldn't recommend ascending as it's a steep climb. Walking down is a bit simpler, but still steep. Friction down the smooth granite slope. I marked up your photo, it's the red arrow on the left (I've also got an online too). I love Upper Grant Lake. It's one of my favorite 'secret' places in that part of Yosemite. Doesn't get much use since Grant Lakes is a 1+mile spur, and lower Grant isn't so scenic and not much is written about it. Upper Grant has a long granite 'dock' jutting out into the lake with very deep water. Great for diving and general lounging on your themarest in the water. It's also very pretty, in a cby murphtron - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This is a superb lake! I'm not a reservoir fan for recreation. They generally attract people I'm not so interested in hanging with in the outdoors. But it's amazing how effective a 1/4 mile hike is to reduce traffic. The lake is about 6 ft below peak and is beautiful. Water is warm enough for lounging on your thermarest with a cool beverage. 5 kids and 3 dads hiked to the peninsula mid-way onby murphtron - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hi, I've read the Eleanor posts so far. I'm thinking of dragging the kiddies there for a mini weekend easy backpacking trip (with a canoe). Have a few questions. * Is it less than 1 miles from the roadend to the lake? Could I portage in a canoe? * Would it be a decent place to canoe? * How low (high) will the water level be in late July? Will it be bathtub ring city? * Is it a good swimmingby murphtron - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
That old map is very cool! I'd like to try that Frog Creek trail. I also notice there's an old trail to Flora Lake. Is this visible at all? I imaine it's largely forested. I know there's a cross-country route, but I've never tried it. I also notice that all of the lakes north of Kibbie (Boundary, Spotted Fawn, Many Island) are not displayed (or at least named) on the map.
