Happy birthday Basilpop! Hope you guys are out enjoying the High Sierra! Hopefully you aren't having to deal with the bickering between ______ & ________!! (We still had a blast hanging with you folks even with those two bickering over the puzzle!) Also thanks for all the trip planning assistance you have provided Ashley and I! Getting close to the JMT gives the same feeling of getting near the 405/10 during rush hour :/ We try to stay as far away from those areas. But for those who really want to do the JMT, they can still always spend a few extra days trying to get fcfsby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Yea I was thinking on the lines of SEKI but looks like its ok to do at Yose so you're good to go in the department! I think my only suggestion would be to use one of the lockers further away from the trailhead. Last time I used a box for a dayhike, I guess someone used the same one and left it open when they grabbed their items. Would hate for you trip to go south due to someone doing that :/by KevinD - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I haven't gone up myself yet this year but a few friends went climbing there this past week and from the photos it looks pretty dry around cathedral and Tenaya (photo below).by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for sharing! That definitely is the biggest tree/smallest island I've seen! Looked quite clear and sunny before the low-pressure came in, how were the temperatures?by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I don't believe you're allowed to cache food at the bear boxes but I could be wrong on that. You can carry your day 1 food outside of the bear can so all you'd have to fit is 4 days worth. Regarding different ideas for food, have you considered dehydrating your own meals or using some one pot meal recipes available online? Same good ones available at trailcooking and trail.recipes And whileby KevinD - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hey all! Long story short, we got tired of the city and decided to head to SEKI in hopes of catching a beautiful sunset! Left LA at 430ish and got to the parking lot at around 10ish. Unlike the last time we were here, the parking lot was bone dry. Not a bad thing...but I sort-of missed seeing snow Ran into some snowy patches on some northern slopes not to far from the trailheadby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Hello all! Hope all has been going well. It's been awhile so I decided to catch up on some trip reports! As it was a relatively dry winter, my partner and I didn't really go out much this past season. With cabin fever creeping in, we decided we had to get out and away from the city . Thankfully there was some snow in the forecast for the last few days of March so we decided to go forby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

https://www.travelyosemite.com/winter/yosemite-ski-snowboard-area-webcam/ So far there isn't enough snow to open Badg.. I mean the Yosemite Ski and snowboard area Regarding the snowshoes, it can be tiring to walk with the first few times but I ended up loving it! You can rent MSR evos/denalis at REI to try em out.
