I don't recognize anything in the Tioga Pass entrance pic. Where's the entrance station?by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
IMO, they won't open this year due to snow. It'll be an easy decision (excuse?) for Aramark. Even if it were a low snow year, it's difficult these days to find people to work for a short summer season. Then there's the other reasons you mentioned. So yeah, I wonder if they'll ever reopen.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotebalzaccom And by the way, astrophotography is one of the great inflators of expectations. What you see through an astrocamera with a time-lapse exposure ainβt what youβre gonna see with your naked eye. And that's exactly why I didn't get up early to look for it. I've been fooled too many times. But I agree the idea of a green comet is intriguing.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for posting. I just went down a rabbit hole with the links from that article, like the Ode to 395 and the geology of the Sierra. Good reading for a Friday morning.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks eeek. For those of us who live in the east and have a long way to travel to get to Yosemite, the system was burdensome. I guess they do this every year, but if I self-register, how am I going to use the permit if I can't park on a side road or parking lot?by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My son and I did that trip in reverse a few years ago. We had a great time, and it was a good bonding experience. Thanks for the trip report, it really brought back some good memories.by The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
To follow up on "The Geezer's" post, I always leave berries, etc alone. That's food for wild animals, like bears. I'd rather a bear eat the wild food instead of human food, or worse, me πby The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
You should be ok as long as you leave your smelly stuff in your bear canister. I leave my pack outside, maybe propped up on a tree. If rain is in the forecast, I put my bag in my tent. To save room, sometimes I put it under my legs. Oh, make sure you check for spiders and bugs on your pack (before you put it on) if you leave it outside.by The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Rivian has been aggressive in adding chargers in "out of the way" places, like national parks and rec areas. I watched "A Long Way Up" a few years ago which is a documentary about two friends (one being Ewan McGregor aka Obi Wan Kenobi) that rode electric motorcycles from the tip of South America to LA. Looks like you've researched it pretty well. You must have an EV? Which one?by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotebasilbop QuoteThe Other Tom By the way, there are several public chargers in Lee Vining. Plugshare lists only two J1772 (a/k/a "slow" ) charge ports--are there additional ports not yet listed on Plugshare? The closest fast chargers to Lee Vining I can find are Mammoth Lakes (Tesla), Bridgeport (CCS), or Bishop (Tesla and CCS). Thank you for using plugshare!
