If a bear was going through a bear box i would try throwing a rock at the bear box because im sure it would be a loud thud especially with the bear's head inside. Plus I think it would be okay to hit with a rock because I think a rubber bullet with have more force than someone throwing a rock at a distance.by Javmp - General Discussion
Crazy situation must have been scary being up there during the time. Two weeks ago 7-30 in the TM campground there were several park rangers code 3 to a site in the campground. Found out later that day that a man had died of a heart attack. He was a volunteer for some group, working for Yosemite.by Javmp - General Discussion
Last week the line was pretty long by 8 am. Probably 30 deep.by Javmp - General Discussion
Yeah they were going throughout the campground as well.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thought I would pass it along, there were no public showers at the TM lodge. Don't know if lodge guest had showers available (I'm guessing they did).by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Water is a little cold in the high country, but very refreshing. Water is higher than the last two years but it is nice.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just went to North Dome/Indian Rock on 8/4, there is enough water to get a drink. In fact saw close to 30-40 small brook trout living in the stream.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was just up there and they had said that lots of people were extending their stay for a couple extra days. In fact they had a sign saying it might be impossible to extend says throughtout last weekend. I saw a lady extend her site for about 5 days. I'm sure you will be able to extend later in the month a lot easier. eeek is correct, you can't reserve a specific site you get assigned one once yoby Javmp - General Discussion
I remember one year as we were leaving the park out of Tioga, the car I was in had an annual pass. The second car hadn't yet paid for his pass because he arrived so late that they were already closed. Anyways the kiosk was closed for my car but once the second car was going to go through, the kiosk opened so he paid. That time it opened at 9 am.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I've heard there has been a few thunderstorms this past week. The forecast for the coming week shows that there might be a few thunderstorms until about thursday, just in time when I get up there. Too bad you can't get up there.by Javmp - General Discussion
It was actually in the Tuolumne Meadows campground, around the time when they used the bear dogs.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My parents had friends who were getting things out of the bear box for dinner and as he turned around to put what he had just pulled out of the box onto the table a bear rushed in behind him to take I believe marshmellows. This was several years ago when the bear activity was really bad, you could count on seeing at least one bear everyday, and hear people trying to chase away bears.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Mount Hoffman, amazing views of the park, never had such a great view before. Young lakes, great alpine lake. Elizabeth Lake is a good hike to start the trip off. Clouds Rest gives some great views. While at Mono Pass go check out the old cabins and the mines.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'd rather be up there is the rain than in So Cal with the heat. As long as your not setting up camp or tearing down camp in the middle of a thunderstorm, anythings fine.by Javmp - General Discussion
Here is the site for Tuolumne Meadows weather, updated daily. http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/queryF?TUMby Javmp - General Discussion
Tuolumne Meadows is often full during the summer and especially on the weekends. It is not a guarantee that a spot will be available. So make sure you have other options available if you are heading that way. The place to get away from all the crowds of the valley is starting to become very popular as more people tend to visit.by Javmp - General Discussion

I've seen multiple bikers going throughout the 120. The last time I was up in the area I saw a guy riding his bike around Tenya Lake heading towards Tuolumne Meadows. After several stops to fish just outside the park, we passed him again as he was ready to go down Tioga Pass. I'm guessing he came from the valley and would probably head back after he went down to Lee Vining. All I can think is howby Javmp - General Discussion
I usually check the weather for around the area, Lee Vining, June Lake, Mammoth, etc. These locations are close and if it is stormy in the areas then I can tell what the weather may be. However it can be kinda of unpredictable up in TM. Sometimes there are thunderstorms, other times it is sunny all day no clouds, sometimes it is warm where you only need a sweatshirt and then others where it can gby Javmp - General Discussion
It’s great to see the entire region get back to normal water levels, hopefully the rest of the state's reservoirs will start filling up next year. Thanksby Javmp - General Discussion
Yeah the normal level is around 10 ft from the spillway, good to know, thanks! It will stay at about that level for the entire season.by Javmp - General Discussion
I was up there on June 19th, the road was still closed. It wasn't till I got home that I found out the road opened the next day.by Javmp - General Discussion
Anyone been up there this season? Is the water level anywhere near normal? Three years ago the water level was about a foot from the spillway on top of the dam, and the last two years it barely touched the dam. (Close to 40 ft difference)by Javmp - General Discussion
You get your site once you get to the campground. It will depend on which type of site you have reserved ie. Tent only, trailer, RV, etc... Most of the tent sites are small and closer to the river, however the larger sites are more towards the center of the campground, near the river but not right next to the river. Generally you can ask to trade a site(one trade only), usually they do get annoyeby Javmp - General Discussion
Tenya lake to Clouds Rest is a great hike, but the first hour is a killer. Young Lakes is another good day hike that takes you up to an amazing lake. Mono pass is pretty nice because you can see Mono Lake, old mine shafts, and you can actually get to the border of Yosemite. The Waterwheels past Glen Aulin, however with the low water level I think this will be a huge disappointment. Cathedral Lakeby Javmp - General Discussion
None of the new phones that I have work in Yosemite, however my mom's old phone works because it still has analog mode. Most new cell phones are digital only, which even when I was on top of Cloud's Rest did not work. My parents friend had got a tri-mode phone and it got service and worked good enough to make calls. All the phones we tried were using Verizon. The best place I found for receptionby Javmp - General Discussion
