Doesn't the hiker's bus leave from the Lodge at 8AM? It's now 10? Yeesh. FWIW: I haven't seen a single Tuolumne Shuttle Bus yet. Don't think those are running at all. Evidence gathered from multiple trips/visits this summer.by Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I took some pics from the Watkins/Basket/NorthDome area, Saturday. The mushroom of smoke got larger and larger, orange mixed in. Visibility into the valley got worse and worse as well. No wonder the valley was so traffic free.by Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
What's annoying is that when you search for it in the NOAA Database, it's not listed. Or it's not obviously named. Will likely make another trek out there in the week or two. Have never taken the trail from Yose Crk CG. If lucky, will come across a few climbers again. Old maps seem to indicate once upon a time, there was some type of marker at the high point 7569. https://www.nps.gov/yose/lostandfound.htm Hopefully Yosemite has a higher number of honest folks and someone turned in your camera into the lost and found. The pictures are worth more than the camera. Though it's more unlikely that someone would take the camera but leave the memory card with L/F. It would be an expensive "finder's fee" if someone did that, but at least you'd haveby Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotegophersnake Quoteplawrence I've taken this bus when it was operated by DNC (before Aramark). The earliest bus (which is the one you should take) never appeared to sell out. If there was enough of a demand, DNC would add a second bus to the later trips if warranted. In previous years I could pretty much count on finding space on the 8:30 if I booked a day or two ahead. I just called to get some updated insider info. The earliest date this bus will be operational is July 17. It's tied to when they expect (hope) the TM Campground to officially open. So tentatively Monday, the 17th.by Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quotepines book in advance for campsites: book in advance for wilderness permits: book in advance for hotels, but book in advance for car parking?? that would limit the numbers visiting the valley...and number of dollars that slosh around Yosemite. it'll never, ever happen. its as heretical as suggesting that Y's campsites should have hot water*&^%$. which is never, ever going to happen, afteby Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuoteERICG For me, yes and no. The shuttle system at Zion, which services the main canyon during the busiest months, seems to be over-whelmed at times as there are way more people then buses to carry them into the park. Only visitors staying at the Zion Lodge are permitted to drive into the canyon. Yosemite could try and do the same thing but where would you park hundreds of cars so that visitorsby Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'm getting horror stories from people that visited: line of cars, backed up 5 miles from the entrances early afternoons. Once inside the park, additional 2-3 hour waits for parking. No one around to direct traffic. Same bottleneck crap at Bridalveil (not just cars, but hour + long waits to use the putrid, horrid restroom facilities). Third world stuff IMO. Good point about the YV-TM hikers bus. I had some concerns that it wouldn't even be running this year, due to the HSC. But other things need to be operational for that bus to make sense. It was originally planned to start 6/9/17, based on the website. Of course, that's been pushed back a bit. Interesting how the GP Tour Bus officially states that they don't make drop-offs at the trailheadsby Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Everything safe and ready to go by July 4, hopefully. Latest date on record is July 1 (1998). Mid-Late June for most of the heavier snowpack years. I'll guess June 29, but hopefully it's a week sooner.by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It's easy to slip from one of those steps, especially on the way down. In wet conditions, it's important to focus on each step and try not to do any sightseeing while walking.
