We spent two nights at Ten Lakes earlier this month, but not being Super Human and having an interest in fishing, our layover day was much much lazier than the one chick-on has suggested! One good story and one question: 1) When we arrived at Lake 3 & set up camp, we noticed a beer can on the snow. Garbage to carry out. Grrrr. We camped at Bernice on Aug 8 & 9 last week and found the mosquito population to be minimal. We scrambled up along Florence Creek / Waterfall to get to Florence Lake for a day hike, and again, few mosquitos. But Boothe Lake and Evelyn Lake .... arghh. We just got back from a 4 night trip in the Vogelsang area. My usual hiking speed has been described as "moderately slow." Add in some altitude (I need more oxygen!), elevation gain, and knees that swell with the slightest exertion, and my new speed becomes "extremely slow." So I can't make as many miles as most of you, but I still enjoy getting out in the backcountry. Bby NacciNW - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My sister called the ranger yesterday to get an update (family in Wawona this weekend.) The rangers are hazing the bear nightly, trying to get it to move on. Thanks for posting this info. More from the Facebook page... Quotethe campground should be open by July 15 for reservations, and we may accept reservations for earlier dates, as well. Chilnualna Creek has some little fish, but the stream fishing is much more challenging than lake fishing. Hike up the Upper Chilnualna Fall trail about a mile or more. When you see or hear the creek near by, cut through the woods to reach it. There are a few footpaths down to the creek from the big open rock area. A vague regulation like this doesn't really help much: Quote•Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am; generators may be used sparingly during daylight hours. Perhaps next time you'll need to camp someplace that doesn't allow RVs like Tamarack Flat or Yosemite Creek. Even though it may be a bit more crowded, I'd suggest you aim for the first or second week of June instead of late May. Usually Tioga Pass is open around Memorial Day weekend, and it would be great if you were able to see and enjoy Tuolumne Meadows for your visit. Typically the number of visitors picks up after mid June (Fathers Day weekend) as most schools are out for the summer by then. (Nby NacciNW - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
