Okay, I have been waiting and waiting to see the open sign appear on I-5 on one of my Oregon trips and still says closed. CA web site does not say it is permanently closed, but a different google link said it was on the list of 90 state parks to be closed. Anybody heard anything? This would be a great get out of the car place to stop and see, I sure hope it isn't closed!by nightsklabs - General Discussion

I went ahead and did the entire cap to measure the product and was much more pleased with how things turned out. It would be nice if they were a bit more clear on the directions! Thanks everyone for your input.by nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Okay, I know this is a stupid question, but I'm asking anyway. The directions say use a capful. Do you who use the product consider a capful the entire cap, or just the part of the cap that seals the product? Thanks in advance!by nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

We used our back hoe to clear enough out that I could get into the patches and cut them out at the base of the stalks. But if I had any clue how to operate a chainsaw, I would have not been opposed to trying that method. heeheehee... I think my arms will be scarred for life from what it takes to get in there and cut them out! I guess if I have to commute, I'm glad I go by car. Great views of Mt. Shasta, and I'm determined to stop at Castle Craigs one day really soon! But I would not be opposed to shorten the time any way possible. Love the pic chick-onby nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I absolutely love this forum! Unfortunately, I tend to get sucked in for hours catching up and viewing all the great photos posted. This is bad for my job, good for my soul..... virtual hiking so to speak. This year I will not make it out hiking anywhere, even though I am still trying to beg hubby to drive in for one day of hiking. With the two driveways you can put the tent trailer in one, and the travel trailer in the other. You could even fit both in the second driveway if you wanted, even though it would be cramped. I have stayed in this camp site before. Your only issue is you need to be coming back the other way of the loop to be able to easily back into the space. The second loop is okay to loop around with a trailerby nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This camp site...boy does it bring back HORRIBLE memories! I actually booked this campsite a few years ago and tried to manuever my living quarters horse trailer into it. Since it was a goosneck I could pivot like mad, but that tree across from the driveway..no, it didn't work. The rocks further up the road were a bigger obstacle....and to more honest, I had to think okay, if I can get thisby nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I hope I added the photo right... For years I've gone up and down the Vernal Falls trails and have seen this "dam" on the other side of the river. My mom's only guess is that this may have been an area they mined for gold in the early years, though it looks more modern then that. Anyone have any ideas? Any old maps that might show it? Chick-on~ I culled my favorite shots. I loved your shot of all the ice on the mountains on the Glacier Point side..I was like, hey, I was there! http://s1120.photobucket.com/albums/l496/nightskylabs/Jan%20Yosemite%202011/by nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Chick-on~ there is no such thing as too many Yosemite pictures, or to many trips. My mom bought a new Cannon Rebel camera (no idea of the model) so she made me be her personal photo-taker.."get this, take that" so I came home with 240 pictures. How was your Yosemite trip?by nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Trail from Happy Isles to Vernal Falls bridge is very icy. From bridge to Clark point packed snow maybe a foot and a half wide. Decided to turn back below Clark Point due to small snow avalanche covering trail. Looked like another hiker used snow shoes to go around under area, but was not comfortable trying to take my mom that way. Would have loved to see Nevada Falls. Maybe next time. y_p_w~ I'm not a complete moron. The road is paved but had several inches of ice and snow. I also carry icetrekkers, but did not want to do all the switching between shoes and trekkers..as far as the ranger walk, I'm looking for a little more quiet in my trip. szalkowski~ I have found the forecasted temps to not always be accurate, and the tv weather is forecasting temps 10 degrees colder theby nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Sorry...I meant the trees, not the meadow. My husband and I snowshoed around Mirror Lake and back toward the the visitor center. While snow was not very deep, the shoes were great for the iciness.by nightsklabs - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hi All..my mom and I are taking our annual Yosemite trip this weekend and I'd like some input on what the actual temperatures we should expect are. The link off nps shows 40's day time but the local news is showing 10 degrees colder. I'm making her snowhoe on this tripso I hope the warmer temps don't create alot of snow meltoff.
