Am I reading that graph wrong? Are there more visitors now and less citations/warnings? Also, how do they count visitors? Is it every pass sold or every car that goes through the park. Am I counted as one person, or ten people because I made ten trips into Yosemite last year. When I pick up a permit from the groveland ranger to go in towards Kibbie lake am I counted? Guess I never really cby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I think every time I've been at Beehive I've seen at least one bear. Outside of the meadow by crane flat, the beehive/laurel/Vernon area is your best shot a seeing a bear in the park. Although, I went from cherry dam to Eleanor out to Wapama falls last month, but I didn't see any bears that trip. I guess they didn't like the rain either.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
That brings up the question of whether or not it's more drugs or more enforcement in the park.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteThe Other Tom Interesting. 30 miles per day is not my hiking style. I agree with the 30 miles a day, that is definitely a bit much for me. I'm happier in the 12-15 range. But to do the kind of trips Skurka does, you would need that kind of speed. On a side note, his blog is pretty interesting: http://andrewskurka.com/ I know about him because I googled the Sierra High Route a whileby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Thanks for the update Eeek. I was just at Wapama Falls (came in from Cherry Lake) and there was no snow to worry about at that level. All the creeks were flowing pretty hard.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I do love Big Lake. Its quite pretty and if you go that far, you might as well see Yellowhammer and the Ranger's secret getaway ranch. Hyatt was a pretty lake as well. I do like that area that you were talking about, Red Can etc, you can knock a lot of lakes out quickly...by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Andrew, thanks so much for the info about the Frog Creek Crossing. I'm going to try for Edith in the next 2 weeks so that info was invaluable. And thanks for all the pictures. Also, I can attest to the viability of the Frog Creek Trail. Its unmaintained, but in decent shape. It does get a lot of use from the Rangers that stay at Eleanor.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It may be time to expand your quest to touch em all to lakes in the Emigrant....you know how big a proponent of the Emigrant I am.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It's that glorious time of the year again, no not spring training, but when the snow starts to melt and everyone sets up their plans for the summer. Where is everyone planning on going? First on my list is Edith Lake. I've talked to Chick-on about it extensively, and it seems every time I've shot out for it something weird has happened and I couldn't make it. Next on the list is an attemptby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Drive time wise, I'd definitely agree that 120 is faster. I enjoyed 108/Cottonwood just for the change up and it does have nice scenery. However, if you have someone that has car-sick issues, 120 is definitely the way to go. I don't know about the veracity of the story the ranger at Eleanor told me (we talked to him last October) about the misprint on the map, but it did make me chuckle. Quotechick-on I'm guessing that getting a day-of permit this year is going to especially painful. Yet another reason I love going in on the west side at shingle springs or Eleanor, just call the groveland forest district and have them leave the permit in the box.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. As usual chick-on is right. Following the creek from Eleanor to Kibbie would be a great trip. No matter how fast or how slow I drive on cherry lake road it always seems to take the same amount of time. For a first timer, you could camp at Cherry Lake and day hike Eleanor and Kibbie. The only thing I would disagree with, is that it's not a bad drive on Cottonwood Rd to cherry lake. A rby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Ahh yes, I remember looking at your gps track of that trip and laughing that it showed you walking on the water on Eleanor Lake. I haven't worked up Kibbie creek, I would like to follow that up to Many Island Lake. I did follow the other unnamed creek that we called "not Kibbie creek" and that was another pretty canyon. As you can tell, I really love that area of the park. Atby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
You're absolutely right, Mr. Chick-on. I owe you and everyone else here who posts pics that get me through those long days & nights at work an apology and thanks. First of all thanks for putting up all those great pics that keep me motivated at the daily grind. And secondly, I apoligize for not putting some pics up. Hah, you might as well throw "solitude" from people in on this mythical list of places to go. Haha chick-on had to me took Kibbie to get me to respond... Anyways, I'd vote for Kibbie (only 700 feet at the beginning and then flat) or Eleanor (basically flat the whole way in) or since you may have 2 vehicles: Yosemite creek campground and then down into the valley to the other carby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
