OKay, I'm neither for or against permits, but I don't see how the idea of abolishing permits relates (in any way shape or form) toward the commercialization (like retail outlets, more cables etc., as stated) of the park. Without the permits, it leads to more people and possibly more death-related accidents. On the the flip-side, it's a vast wilderness (at least it was), so be it. Just a side note; but burn your firewood completely, the night before (maybe burn one of those treated 3-hour logs, at a time), or someone will steal it. Keep your bear box locked, if possible. Also, buy your firewood outside the park, or you will literally pay an arm and a leg, for it.by Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks for posting that Bee, considering I haven't been on it. I don't need a sign to tell my that's dangerous. The mist trail scares me wet or dry and this wouldn't be any different.by Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just my 5 cents, but I'm sure they saw the danger (i.e "the mist trail'). People are going to do what they are going to do, reguardless of signs. Granted, I haven't been acorss this bridge myself. That being said, the park is a natural wonder...Suing the park would be like suing a lifeguard for a shark attack. I tent camped Mammoth, last July, for the first time and all I can say is that it was cold and breezy. At night I wouldn't doubt it dropped into the 30s. My sleeping bag (rated at 30 degrees) didn't keep warm. My husband was even cold and that's saying a lot, considering he's always hot. It was an odd year the desert floor only reached 100 degrees that week. We set up camp in a freaky thunderby Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I think I've said this in another thread, but get a cheap plastic clothesline(like mtn man wrote above)! Best thing I ever did. I got mine at the Dollar store, years ago and the thing is sooo long that I can go all the way around those tiny campground a couple of times. If I'm nice, I'll hang towels across it, so people see it and not run into it, but I'm not usually feeling as nice as that, whenby Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It makes me wonder what the cause of these heart attacks are, in these young people (like genetic deformities, smoking, eating...etc-the ladder ones usually take years to show). My dad was 57, when he died from one, the day following cardioversion (having your heart stopped and restarted)...which, in itself, is considered "young". He had conjestive heart failure. Thanks eek. Funny, you read the reviews, but I didn't find it bad. Not the greatest book I ever read, but interesting. I actually like true crime on serial killers. The only time I get bored with them, is when it gets down to the court hearings. That's when the mystery is over and it becomes more technical... The Green River Killer, was a good one. You ever read "Murder at Yosemite" (I believe that's the title...have it here somewhere)? An interesting read. There were/are tons of criminals that live in/aound the Sierras (I'm sure any mountainous area...great place to hide), hiding, with parole violations. I say reintroduce the Grizzly/timber wolves(wolves are on there way out this way, supposedly). Maybe it will scare off some of the tourists. hahaha I doubt it will though...They don't scare them in Yellowstone, from the looks of their tourist numbers. My mother is in a wheelchair and I think if I were to bring her to yosemite, I would definately think about a heavy duty scooter. They are expensive to buy, but I wonder if a medical supply rents them (the one, near me, doesn't). One of those $2000 or $3000 dollar scooter would go up Happy Isles (Vernal and Nevada Falls). I've had them circle the tent on seperate occassions (the smell of my hair shampoo maybe?) and one came into our site while I was cooking hotdogs. The nieghbor campers hopped ontop of their picnic table, that was comical. This one bear (in Upper Pines) was mischievous . He'd circle the tent, hide when the ranger came (come back later), and ran off with a nieghbors backpack. My son and I laughedby Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The Valley. If you go in the spring/early summer any valley floor hike is good because all of the waterfalls (Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil) will be going. You can hike to Mirror Lake (the pond) at this time of the year, also. When you enter the park, the ranger will give you a newspaper that has a map of the valley, with listed shuttle stops. I usually always go at around this time, but this is the best snow season the park has had in years, so I was hoping. Our summers have been mild the last couple of years. The most I've seen, in Aug./Sept., was a thread of water comming down...usually the face is just wet. I seriously hate this time of the year (in the park), so dry. I dream of being there in May or June...maybe before I die..by Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My reservations are for the week of September 12th. Considering the amount of snow, this year, what do you think the odds are of Yosemite falls having any water(other than the rock face being wet)? I'm hoping it's not too hot, this summer to slow some of the snow melt. One can only hope.by Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I once got on Ebay and saw 5 nights, in June or July(now that I recall, I believe it was May), go for $600 bucks (3 or 4 years ago, probably)...I believe it was a pay now system. I seriously considered it because I was sooo frustrated with the whole damn NP system...but now I stop to think, they(the crooks being the cause) are probably the very reason the system is this way...in reguards to bots.by Red Lipstick - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
