Is it reasonable to do a trip from Lyell Canyon (will be there the first night as part of a longer trip, which doesn't count towards the 11) up over Donahue, then to Thousand Island Lakes, explore that area, and then come back via Parker Pass? Better yet, I'll just include a proposed itinerary: DAY 1: Starting from deep up Lyell Canyon, cross over Donahue in the morning and stay at 1000 Islandby mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'd imagine this year the west slope of Ritter will melt out pretty well. A lot less snow visible on it in the photo than I would have expected.by mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quoteedg Here's what I would consider the hairiest part: Thanks, edg. Is that only a small section where one would should use hands making the climb, or is it like that for a while? Hard to believe there was once an official trail (I think I saw it on one of chick-on's maps from the 1930s).by mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

edg, do you have any photos of what you'd consider the hairiest parts (not counting snow) from the summit plateau up to the summit? I was thinking of going up Conness this summer (from Young Lakes though).by mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteMom Too bad the dam in Hetch Hetchy isn't on the list. That would be sweet. I have still never hiked that area because the thought of seeing that dam with my own two eyes seems too depressing.by mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I don't care about preserving anything man made in the park, other than Tioga Pass Road, HWY 140, and the road to Wawona. Tear down the historic bridges, the Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge, the chapel, the Curry pizza deck, Camp Curry, etc for all I care.by mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotechicagocwright 1. For some reason there are two markers on top of Clouds Rest but not one on Half Dome. Besides humorous answers, no one has postulated a guess on why there is not one on Half Dome. Crap, I didn't see either of them when I hiked Clouds a few years ago. Maybe I'll find them this summer when I head out again. Quote 2. The bears in Yosemite are rumored to read tby mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yosemite vets, in snow years this weak is it reasonable to do trips in the high country in July without having to deal with mosquitos? How has it been in past similarly low snow years? I just can't believe how weak the flow looks on the Yosemite Falls webcam already and I'm very tempted to reschedule a late August trip for July. It's hard to even find snow now on the Sentinel Dome webcam. I wondeby mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotey_p_w The green or red are actually pretty easy to find. Many supermarkets carry them near where I live, and quite a few Wal-Marts will stock them where the Mexican foods are. The first time I bought one of the Mayan recipe, it was something like $1.69 a bottle. However, it's really hard to find now. I've seen it at some specialty Mexican restaurant, and it was maybe $4 (this place oveby mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotey_p_w I just bought a bottle last week, although it was a bit pricey. That sucks. Those bottles are maybe $1.20 or $1.80 in Texas. I never get that one though; how different in flavor is it from the green?by mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotey_p_w You're definitely going to need more than just your BearVault for three people. Maybe rent a Garcia when you get to Yosemite. It's only $5 for your entire trip. Would I be correct in assuming one must put down a deposit also?by mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Only openings on the entrance day matter, so you should be fine to reserve two spots today if there are two openings on the day you start. When I made my reservation I needed to wait until after about 1:00PM PST to be able to talk to anyone; otherwise, the signal was always busy. Then again, I made my reservation in March I think, so maybe the lines are busier now as the summer season is approachby mbear - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotechick-on Expect lots of snow. Last Friday it looked like this: Last Friday morning I was the only one in the parking lot from about 9am to 11am. On Sunday when drove out the parking lot had a lot of cars in it... So... that means that lots of people are trapsing up to Clouds Rest or attempting.
