Although many of us will have a different kind of celebration this year, I am hoping everyone will have a Happy Holidays. After seeing what I have seen when I have been in Yosemite this year and reading this SFGATE article "Yosemite's Ahwahnee hosted massive Thanksgiving feast. Unmasked guests had workers appalled.", one really has to wonder how prevalent Covid is in the park. https://www.sfgate.com/california-parks/article/Yosemite-Ahwahnee-covid-aramark-pandemic-15809327.phpby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuoteDavidK42 We've only stayed there once and it was many years ago. I agree with all of parklover's comments (although we stayed in the main building in a room without a bathroom). Although we usually stay in Yosemite West when in the lower part of the Park, we always visit the Wawona at least once or twice...usually to have dinner and always to catch Tom Bopp. To me, the biggest draw of theby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. We have stayed in the Annex building ( above the golf shop) a few times but not for about 10 years so I can't give you a recent evaluation and it was before Aramark took over. We had a room with a bath. Remember it is a historic hotel so base your expectations on that. The rooms tend to be small and the wall thinner than newer hotels so depending on what room you get, it can be noisy at timesby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotegophersnake Thanks, parklover. I did get there last week and I'll add these observations: At the Valley Visitor Center, the restrooms were open but the water fountain by the bookstore was blocked off and wrapped in plastic. No, he never goes with me to the doctors so he has missed me squirming as they try to get past the heavy scar tissue in my knee to get the needles in nor has he seen them go into my other joints. . Quoteeeek QuoteparkloverMen are so stubborn at times. Just had a giant needle shoved into my knee joint. That kind of thing tends to lead to stubborness. Quotechulavista Are there really people out there who would volunteer for that? Never heard of a "full time" volunteer. This is not a year round position. That being said, yes there are people that volunteer full time. My husband is right there with you. Our property is really steep in places and I keep telling him he is getting too old to do the slopes and just to hire someone to do our fire clearance and he won't. This year he twisted his ankle doing the front, fell, rolled down the slope over the retaining wall and landed on our neighbor's driveway and hit his head. Quotebalzaccom Our experience last week was that the store was open to a limited number of people. Everyone in line was wearing a mask...and asked to hand sanitize before entering. IT seemed as if people were making a real effort to play by the rules. that ws true in the public places....out on the trail, perhaps less so. If you can get a reservations, please keep this in mind, especially if you have family or friends that are in high risk groups. I don't know about water availability because I didn't try to get any. I know that the toilets are opened in the picnic areas, Swinging Bridge, Glacier Pt and near the parking lot by the Tuolumne Meadows VC because I saw people using them. Quotechulavista The federal gov can usually do whatever they want. I would say that there is an easy way around this, just like there is an easy way around the half dome lottery.
