Did you walk along the ridge between 10450 and below Tressider? We encountered about a 20' drop in the middle trying to head north. We gave up and went down below to the east and bypassed it. Also, we've considered going to the north end of what makes up the Tressider Peak ridge, just below the north peak. Your route just past that spot. Is there any reason why we couldn't just walk up there?by Calaveras - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I made a simple web page with the 3D images I posted before plus others that I did not post. I updated all my old posts with the link to the page. This will be easier for me to maintain. We're heading to North Dome on Wednesday and I'm betting the snow that fell will all be melted by Tuesday. There's a 2 minute total eclipse that runs coast to coast on August 21, 2017. There's a reasonable chance of clear skies for it in Oregon in August. Then for those of you who are young enough, there's a 5+ minute total eclipse on August 12, 2045 that also runs coast to coast. Both of these are in the morning for the west coast which means less chance of clouds that are common in the afternoons inby Calaveras - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I thought I made a comment somewhere about that. It depends on the distance of what you're photographing. Assuming you have stereo vision out to about 20 feet, and average eyes a bit less than 3" apart, then at a mile the images need to be about 150' apart, at 5 miles 700' apart. For exaggerated 3D the distance apart can be much greater which I think is the case for the images I've posted.by Calaveras - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We went to Lahontan State Park in Nevada and took lots of pictures. I'm going to make an animate GIF of the eclipse but in the meantime here's a sneak preview. Used a Canon 450D and a 200mm zoom lens with a filter. The first 10 images are 8 minutes apart and the last 5 are closer spaced. This image is reduced to 50%. We were just a little south of the centerline as shown in the last frame, not qby Calaveras - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The problem with the clouds is that they change fast and there is a short time between images as I walked from one spot to find the next clear spot. I spoke to my friend about taking simultaneous images when there are clouds in the field. We might try it. It would be cool to have 3D clouds.by Calaveras - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I took 3 sets of images from Taft Point to make stereo pairs but the result was I couldn't get far enough part to get the best stereo effect. My best result is this 3D image of Half Dome from Glacier Point. I took a series of image from the amphitheater to the point itself. Thanks! I suspect most people don't have the glasses. I'm trying to do some more but it hasn't been as easy as I expected. We went to Taft and Glacier Points on Wednesday and I took several stereo pairs with varying separations because I wasn't sure how far part they needed to be. Turns out I couldn't get far enough apart to get a decent stereo affect in most cases. I had fairly good luck with Haby Calaveras - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I'm not buying the idea that the state water people are trying to sell that this year is very dry. Dryer than average? Sure, but no dryer than several other years in the last decade. The official snow water content graphs are here: http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/snowsurvey/PLOT_SWC and they show the central Sierra is closing in on 0% and should be there within a week. There are lots of places you can buy them on-line. Since I wear glasses I bought clip-ons from here back in 1996 when NASA started posting anaglyphs from Mars Pathfinder. I changed the images. I went a little farther east to get the entire gully but not as far down. Were you there last year in early June? When the rangers had the sign posted saying not to try because people were getting lost? My friend and I want to take the walk to Taft Point from the parking lot in the near future for some photography but I don't want to go until Sentinel Creek is a non issue. By that I mean it's an easy hop across it, no wading or looking for logs to cross, and no snow on the trail.
