Quotechick-on Quoteboomtown Base of Staircase Falls is nice spot as well. Short Scramble. Uh... yeah... why didn't I think of that! It certainly should be very quick. Got any pictures? Here are some from 2003: I hope you can see these. I just learned how to post photos on this forum. Tortillas that are about the same diameter as your bear can and peanut butter and honey are all high calorie/weight ratio foods that we always bring. Nutella is also a high calorie but tasty option.by boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
RIP, Mrs. Rhoan - The Paiute Nation has a proud history in the West (but tragic like many Native American peoples). 152 years ago today was the 1st battle of the Pyramid Lake War between the Northern Paiutes and a volunteer army from Vriginia City NV along the Truckee River near Pyramid Lake. The Paiutes ambushed the White settlers who were invading Tribal land and routed them despite the large nby boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteCalaveras Were you there last year in early June? When the rangers had the sign posted saying not to try because people were getting lost? There were four of us there walking up and down the creek bank in the snow looking for a crossing. There were no places unless you were willing to walk through 2 or 3 feet of fast running water. Maybe I'm confused. When we crossed in high water conditioby boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks all, That looks like my style of campsite chick-on. I will put this one high on the list. My brother and I are both photography students and big fans of AA (not the recovery society, but Mr Adams).by boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Don't sweat it too much. I've seen groups of 20+ in ONE site. Just be kind to your neighboors and you'll be alright.by boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There is a great chapter on this incident in the book: Off The Wall: Death In Yosemite by Michael P. Ghiglieri and Charles R. "Butch" Farabee, Jr. There were a group a salty climbers who made out like banits on the dope from the wreakage. This is a great read by tha way. It documents all of the unnatural deaths in the Park's history.by boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteHitech Get a wilderness permit and stay the night "up there" and hike half dome the next day. +1 to this strategy. Half Dome has become such a trophy hike that its almost no fun to do the march with all the others (certainly not a wilderness experience). Leave your dog with a friend or boarding house. If you limit your exploration of the Park to where your dog can go, you might as well go to the city park. (my $.02)by boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There are always cancellations so I would try and go to the kiosk in Curry (do they still have that there?). We have always been able to get 1 or 2 nights. Good luck.by boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Just don't sleep for a night or 2 when the moon is out and it won't count against your time. Kidding aside, there isn't any check out for a wilderness permit. Rarely, Rangers on the trail will request to see your permit. As long as you had a permit I'm sure they would understand if you took longer than stated to do your itinerary. Tamarack Flat is also another good one off 120. Good for tent camping and lots of room. Getting 2 sites next to each other is a longshot. I tried for 2 just in the same campground and had no luck. Also, you would need 2 different profiles. Rules say 6 but 8 people in 1 site is totally doable (I've seen groups of 20+) as long as you don't have 2 RV's. Wish you luck. PS~ If you go after school starts in California (Mid-Late August) you will have much better luck.by boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I must have been lucky......I went for my 1st choice....no dice.....then I took what was available (CROWDED STUDIO CAMPSITE). It will be my Mom's 75th birthday so we are very happy to get one (at least her 50th time in the park). I agree that this system is a challenge. I think it should be a daily or weekly system instead of 1 month sold out in 14 seconds. What bothers me is that it is nearly imby boomtown - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
