Have camped many times in the Valley and other places with thunderstorms and/or steady rain. Have a good weather proof tent with sealed bathtub floor, if possible. This system doesn’t seem too wet, so doubt u will have the *floating* tent one of our group had one year! They were not in tent at time... And it was a BIG tent! It dumped! The valley campsites are so packed the water just poby JustKeepWalking - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you for posting this, I haven’t had a lot of online time recently and may not have seen this.. I’m not involved in the community anymore. Hans’ wife was my first climbing instructor. I’ve met Hans a few times, seen him in the gym a number of times back when I used to go and have heard him talk a few times. Safety really is his mantra and the two of them really instilled a strongby JustKeepWalking - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Oh goodness!! I hope ur recovery goes well!! It seems my stress fracture is finally doing better with the assistance of the bone stimulator. Finally. Now we are focused on the plantar fascia fix. I’ve already done one round of Plasma Rich Platelet therapy, will do another next week to see if it fixes an area that flared up after the first treatment helped the original owie spot. Thank you both for brightening my day!!! Loved reading the history.. my first camping trip to Yosemite was when I was 3 months old, I have been told.. often. Anyway, have been going at least once a year my whole life.. obviously much more often as of late... We have been trying to go on our friends’ summer holidays for backpacking, but it’s so hard to get sites now.. so we have convertby JustKeepWalking - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I, for one, was super comfy... MH Skypoint under my MH Phantom hooded jacket, my puffiest puff pants. Glommitts. Warm boots. I may have looked like a marshmallow, but I was warm and happy!by JustKeepWalking - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteparklover QuoteKevinD Well....not that it matters for a few days now but just got back from SEKI. First time ever that I was in a National Park when the gov was shut down and opened! Bathrooms were all closed. Roads were fine and didn't need any plowing thankfully. If the gov does shut down again, bring a pen since the self-registration booth didn't have one....result of the shut down?? Moby JustKeepWalking - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Sorry didn’t see this sooner.. I was on the hunt for a decent bathroom, and yes I meant Aramark managed facilities were open, including bathrooms in their facilities, however NPS bathrooms, many of them at any rate, were locked. I’d say the mowed area is important for that said transfer from Heli to ground transport. Clear area to move about in. A couple of weeks ago, the landing I saw happened when there was a SAR vehicle there (hashed No Parking zone) with two peeps rigged in harnesses. And two more walked up. And there were two in copter when it landed. It took off again and was searching around Yos Falls as I dby JustKeepWalking - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There is an operational Fire Lookout and helipad and training gear at Crane Flat Lookout. It’s a rather large facility with a much larger helipad area. I have a video of a copter firing up and taking off.. And speaking of helipads... that cleared area across from Church Bowl parking, where the huge “No Parking” hashed area is, is an active helipad. People should not park there. They shoby JustKeepWalking - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

11:15 Saturday 20 Jan. 140 entrance open, not staffed. Wawona Road was plowed but icy no chain signs, but peeps should be careful in cold icy sections. KevinD and Bearproof: Limited time offer until I can join them!!! Best act fast if u want a pizza!!! Torture for me tho, smelling tasty hot pizza for as long as I did! And then they weren’t too hungry when I picked them up, so we decided to eat it back in the room after they had showers! I was just checking current status on that site this past Saturday. It was a lovely sunny morning and I’d just dropped the guys off to do a crazy day hike.. The area past the gate had toilet paper all over.. very annoying. The road looked rutted in a way that struck me as runoff. No obvious sign of tires/vehicles for some time. Sigh. Sorry been quiet. Trying hard not to miss mountains too much. And new toy arrived last Friday, so been moving into that since.. And foot is getting better... annoyingly slowly. Just my two cents: The new Altras with Vibram should be better.. I found their non-Vibram options to be slippery.. haven’t bought a pair pair with Vibram yet! And I LOVE my crocs, but only use them for creek crossings when I don’t feel I can dry well enough during remainder of the trip. I save a lot of time not changing shoes at crossings.. so crocs stay on pack until it’s time fby JustKeepWalking - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
