If one's only camping window is from the 10th of the month until the 20th of the same calendar month then they now have to make one reservation for 10th to the 16th, and then HOPE that the next month they can catch a break and make a reservation in the same site from the 17th to the 20th (or even another site for that matter). By having a two week 'overlap' that eliminates that issue.by calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
If I remember right, on the old recreation.org site, when a new reservation window opened (just like Feb. 15-Mar. 14 did today for Upper Pines) you could make a reservation for up 2 two weeks at a time, even if it meant most of your reservation was part of the month not open yet. As an example, since Mar. 14 is the last day of the current reservation window, one could make a reservation for 2 weby calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuotePineCone Under the "Fees and Cancellation" heading on the Lower Pines page, it's listing April 01, 2019 - October 27, 2019, but can't guarantee that's accurate! Good on ya! That looks right to me, especially since what they show as 2018 is correct. Thanks, Steveby calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Has the opening date for Lower PInes in 2019 been made available yet? I just tried using my old links to recreation.gov and none of them worked. I then went into this blog site and read about the change-over to BAH. By typing in recreation.org in the address bar I was able to get into the site (but had to set up my password again). Quoteparklover Thanks for sharing your Yosemite story. You are so lucky that you started going to Yosemite so early in your life. I was 34 the first time I went, not due to lack of wanting to go but the fact that most of those 34 years I lived back east and my parents were not outdoorsy people and didn't think about trips to national parks. Still trying to figure out how to post a pic from my Google albums. This was from Mar. 29, 2016...and upon Preview it looks like it worked! Tenacity pays off! I don't think there is a year that I have camped there over Spring Break that it hasn't rained at least part of the time. To your point, it sort of adds to the adventure. But I guess some people don't look at it that way. But I always try to get site with trees so I put up tarps and canopies to give us a dry area to cook, play games and have a fire LINK And w/oby calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Let me start by saying I have been camping in Yosemite since I was a toddler (my parents had a super 8 video). My earliest memories are probably from when I was 5-6. Here is another pic: LINK It looks like a very narrow site, and even if you back your trailer until your wheels hit the back blocks you may not have enough room for your tow vehicle to park sideways at the front of the pad (and not be hanging over into the road). Thanks to this thread I was 'stimulated' last night to make reservations at TML for 8/1 and 8/2. We had some camping reservations at a State park in NorCal, but it is simply going to be too hot to have that be enjoyable so I canceled them and was in search of somewhere else to go. I just did a little further research on sites I have stayed in over the past couple of years and see that one does actually say the max. vehic. length is 40 and max. trailer length is 35. So I was wrong in my comment above about 24' max. However, I still say that you should have no problem with that site. Steveby calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
In my experience in camping in Lower Pines in our 29ft 5th wheel, the max. length is the actual length of the pad. So since your trailer is 30ft and pad 35, then you would have no issues. I think if you were to do more research you would find that 24ft is the standard max. trailer length which I have have never understood (I believe it has to do more with navigating the roads in the campgroundby calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. What does 'flat mode' mean? I tried Flikr on a trial basis a few years ago, but for the past 15 years have been using Google Picasa and uploading pics to Google Photos (also free). I recently got a Google Pixel phone with a remarkable camera (I no longer need to keep my Canon 70D at my side). It automatically uploads all pics to the Google cloud with unlimited storage, and that also is free.by calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
After reading that the sign was back up I went back and checked my shots leaving the park on the 14th, and sure enough, there it is! As you look at this pic, notice the back-up getting into the park. About a week before my reservation date I got an email from Reserve America stating something to the effect that there was a lot of tree cleaning up and to expect to see on-going work.
