QuoteDavidK42 I've never taken the Obyrnes route and, looking at a map, I'm not sure exactly where it would be taking me (possibly up to 4 and then to the I-5?). Anybody familiar with that road? Obyrnes looks like a fairly twisty mountain road that would seem to be much slower than 120. Does that make any sense as a way to get back to the 101 north of San Francisco or is it just one of thby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotechick-on And you can see Turlock and other things from up there. (and I had a bear can btw) Have fun That looks like Mt. Diablo! I've heard you can see Half Dome from the top of Mt. Diablo on an exceptionally clear day, but things have never aligned for me to do it. I did see Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen once around Thanksgiving, so Half Dome may have been visible that day too, butby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Okay, laugh if you want to, but here's my photo of Half Dome and the 'Silo' from East of Hwy 99. It was taken in March of 2010 as we were heading towards Joshua Tree National Park. My wife saw it first and said 'Oh wow! There it is!". She had to point it out, but once she did it was obvious. It was very strange to see it, and it was much larger than I expected. Very cool shot! That isn't the 'famous' shot with the grain elevator, that one is to the East of Hwy 99 and considerably closer to Yosemite. I took the same "Grain Elevator" shot a few years ago and I can say that it's very, very strange to be that far from Yosemite, and feel even farther, and still see Halfdome.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
