Staying at the Ahwahnee has never been a serious consideration, due to the high price and fact that I'm almost never in my room during a visit. Maybe one night during a weeks stay, just to try it, would be worth it. It would be interesting to try Curry, Yosemite Lodge and the Ahwahnee, and determine which is the best value, all things considered. The place sure gets its share of negby AnotherDave - General Discussion

In September, I accidently found my way into Yosemite Cemetery. I couldn't help but wonder about some of the "locals". Who were they? What does one have to do to be buried in a National Park? What famous deeds did these people do, etc. Here is a site that will provide some info to the above questions: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=1965581&CScn=by AnotherDave - General Discussion

Top ten things I'm thankful for: 1) Trail builders and maintanence people. Without their work, I'd still be lost in Indian Canyon. 2) Whoever builds the banana splits that I destroy after each hike. 3) This forum, for putting me on to Sierra Pt., Ledge Trail, Diving Board, etc. 4) Yoga pants 5) Naughty girls who shop at the One Size Too Small store. 6) John Muir and Teddy. 7) Stratby AnotherDave - General Discussion

I never want to leave Yosemite, but the incentive to hit the road can take many forms.... ...so, with one full day left, I headed in a familiar direction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHZJej98_T0 I've been to the top of Clouds Rest from either direction, but prefer the eastern approach... Every trip to Yosemite, I find a new "favorite place". This year, it was the entire hike to Merced Lake. A year ago, I found a spot on the map with a view that would give Glacier Pt. a run for its money. I had to go back to that place this year, just for another look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU8OJAOMbPg Eagle Peak, baby. Sept. 2 - So many hiking options are available, but which to choose? Pohono? Mt. Starr King? Indian Rock? Ledge Trail? Ah, but with a certain piece of paper in the back pack, the choice was already made.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPgKwByiRIE This would be my fifth time to get a grip on the cables... ..and about the only thing new about the top of Half Dome was a birds-eyeby AnotherDave - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Last year I failed to find a route between Liberty Cap and Mt. Broderick and didn't make it to the Diving Board. This year, a new route would bring new results. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lWJXDG2i0A Here's the problem: I read trip reports that experienced hikers put on this forum, and automatically think that I need to go there. That started the fascination with Diving Board. Woulby AnotherDave - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
On Aug. 31, at 4am, I hit the trail, bound for my first Yosemite lake. Heavy weight country. This one would be fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxNSvFMkag Merced Lake had always been nothing but a blue blotch at the end of a squiggly line on a map. Once beyond LYV, the whole hike would be new. Much of the route would go through the majestic forest, where the mighty human can feel miby AnotherDave - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

With six full days of hiking on the schedule, this would be the best trip ever. It would begin with a triumphant romp up a forbidden trail I had only read about on this forum. That was the plan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJDnJ0vXUgw I scoured the Valley Loop Trail for the trailhead for my first attempt at Indian Canyon. Curious, You sound a lot like me. I looked up at the Ledge Trail so many times, weighing the dos and don'ts of trying it. I had read everything I could get ahold of; almost all of it originating from this forum. On Sept. 4 of last year, I went up the trail, starting from behind the parking lot. I can provide info from that hike, if you like. If there has been a change to the trail siby AnotherDave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Is the solution to this problem to kill all grizzly bears, where ever they live, ASAP? Polar bears too? If the Yellowstone bear is released, there is a CHANCE that Ma and Pa Selfie will get the message: Give these animals the space they crave. After all, the beast in the viewfinder could be THAT bear.
