Just returned from a weekend visit to Yosemite. My wife and I headed up there to try to figure out how to cross-country ski before our trip to the Glacier Point Ski Hut in February...at least we know what we're getting ourselves into now. We also stopped in the valley so I could take some pictures. Usually coyotes are pretty timid, so I was surprised when this guy approachby redpakotasea - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuotewhereverI took my wife on one of those trips, since otherwise she would never have gone that far. Similar situation here...my wife did great on a 5 night backcountry trip in Glacier this past August, but she's never winter camped and is not keen on the idea of camping in the snow. Anyone have experience with this magical looking place? 10.5 mi cross-country ski through Yosemite backcountry to hot cocoa, dinner, and a bed...sounds too good to be true. I just made reservations for late February. Ostrander Ski Hut looks great too, but my wife isn't interested in the downhill/alpine skiing part, which seems to be what it's known for.by redpakotasea - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Thanks! Both were wide open, though my lens doesn't go very wide (exposure: 25 sec; aperture: f/4.0; ISO: 3600). Camera is a Canon 5D with a 17-40mm f/4L.by redpakotasea - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Here are some pics from a recent trip to Young Lakes/Mt Conness areas, 6/25-6/27. The hike up to Conness was my first attempt at "x-country" hiking, though there was really a trail for most of the way. It was a bit swampy crossing the eastern most tributary of Conness creek, and easier on the return hike when we crossed further downstream. The toughest section was a scramble (still clasby redpakotasea - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The wind is picking up today and should be steady/strong through early next week. I'm heading up tomorrow and was worried about my tent flapping in the wind, but I guess it beats the alternative. Anybody know when the burn should be completed? Maybe another day or two judging by Eeek's post?by redpakotasea - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
