Has anyone tried these springs in the summer? Are they reliable? Was thinking of making camp up there.by Sierra Miguel - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
We came across an old cable around here, and I saw what looked like a mine with tailings up here. Also saw an old can and a buckle, but maybe those are from campers? (All locations are visual estimates.) Any info about their history?by Sierra Miguel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotebalzaccom But there is one restaurant that stands out in a completely different way. We have eaten there at least five times in the last ten years, and every single time it has been worse than disappointing. It's the restaurant at Grant Grove Village in SEKI. QuoteMom That's all we really needed. You'll find "weight" repeated in this thread, but what hasn't been explicitly said: Weigh everything. Get a scale that can weigh each item you bring, up to maybe 10 pounds with 1-ounce increments. Digital is probably better, but I use an analog kitchen scale. Record each weight in a spreadsheet. QuoteThe Other Tom There's a big difference between day hiking and backpacking......weight. And it exacerbates blisters. So if you're already having trouble with blisters, expect more. More friction on the back of the heel as you're going up, more on the toes as you're going down. Quotey_p_w The shoes where I have the issue do sort of have low arches. It's not the height of the arch inside the shoe that I've found to cause plantar fasciitis, but the lack of rigidity of the midsole and the weight placed on the foot. If I press a shoe along its length, and it bends anywhere except at the ball of the foot, I don't consider it suitable for hiking or playing sports. Quotemtcwhat about dry stretches? Expect Benson Pass to be dry, and I think the ponds on Seavey Pass were stagnant and unappealing. This was August 2012. Went up Chilnualna Falls trail with no snow gear thinking we were going to Johnson Lk. and Ostrander in a 3-day weekend loop. This based partly on the reports from Glacier Point and the webcams. I'm heading up that way from Hetch Hetchy on Friday, and was hoping to cross at Wilma Lake/PCT or the junction before that. So...it's easy to cross-country from Vernon Lake up to Jack Main?
