Couldn't all of this heart-stopping hand-wringing worry be sidestepped by simply bulldozing camp 4 and making it an RV vehicle site only, in preparation for the next generation of behemoths? just a thought.by pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
accountability, Dave. its all about accountability. we all realise that one man cannot afford to pay the $millions in damages, danger and inconvenience to others, but will you feel more, or less safe next time you go out there and follow all the rules~ including using your common sense. or will you only sleep fitfully wondering if some lying, deceitful scumbag is 'doing his own thing' and sod tby pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. AS I'M TOO LAZY TO READ THE MRP, WHAT WITH ALL THESE PROPOSED CHANGES NAD CLOSURES, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT KIND OF VISITOR IS BEING ENCOURAGED/DISCOURAGED TO VISIT YOSEMITE. If no one is totally sure about what is 'normal' or 'safe' in Yellowstone, how do we judge what is safe and/or normal in Yosemite. how many hikers don't- but now will-carry spray- on or off trail, in Yosemite? and how many will continue NOT to carry it. Spray may be a bona fide defence against an attacking bear- but only if the wind is in the right direction. and there's only, what, 30 seby pines - General Discussion
lovely pics indeed...glad you mentioned ...camp below CR and not ON CR, as some people have done. judging by the last photo, even Rangers have trouble getting decent broadband connection.by pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

notwithstanding the fact that fires can't last forever, how rash would it be to contemplate a trip to Yosemite (TM-Crown lake and back) for Sept/Oct (remembering that I will be travelling from the UK)by pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

HERE'S A GOOD ONE (question): what chance the new concessionaires keeping TM stores fully stocked right up until the minute they close for summer? it can't be that difficult to pile everything that's left unsold into a truck and transfer it to Yosemite valley? or am I being a dumb cluck?by pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. what a strange way to discover what is really a massive change in the park. how will this affect the deli, etc. opening times and so forth. will it mean lower or higher prices in future??? only one thing is for certain: if it means the end to a $4 same-day price rise for a bag of lettuce at TM stores, then it can't be all bad. can it?by pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. NOT ALLOWED ??? that's what I heard too, from a female ranger the day after I descended July 2014 during the thunderstorms) by which time it was too late to do anything. but I can definitely recommend the sunset/sunrise from quite close to the summit on the left hand side a few feet from the path 50 feet before the path turns left to descend. allegedly.by pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

only if cancellation on two consecutive days count. I (and many others) were sat on the train at Emeryville (about 5 years ago) when the guard announced 'this train isn't going to Yosemite due to the Merced entrance road being closed (the train doesn't go there anyway, but we knew what he meant). so after spending one more expensive night at a hotel a few strides from the station, I made my way tby pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

just seen the foxnews item: 'the fire has been smouldering since july.' it looks like it could have begun with the small funnel of smoke that I and others saw in the distance from the top of HD. how do the firefighters feel about the decision (not made by them) to 'let it burn'. am I correct in thinking that this is not the first time that a decision to let a 'controlled' burn has gone tits up?by pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. conness looks very, very interesting. it must go on my to-do list. but judging by the video it does look a lot more exposed than CR. if, having watched the video you still feel drawn to attempt it, then do. the only thing I would advise, and if you are in the mountains anyway you probably already do, is wear sunglasses, and look ahead, rather than down, as far as is practical. and have fun.by pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
