at the time I would have willingly had the B hung for what he did. but having to live with all that responsibility/guilt? (if he actually feels any). uggh! hi, JKW, just caught up with 'basilpop's report of your July GCTR trip. his 2 photos - of your camp and the river, is the exact spot where I 'looked the other way'.by pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
the nearest I have seen is the little 'villages' constructed of wood, pine cones etc. usually on lake beaches. the most comprehensive recently was one at the top end of Tenaya, which I thought was a very good example of children~ at least I presume it was children~ using their imagination. the very best one though was at Fallen Leaf lake a couple of years ago, where a young girl had produced a siby pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hi, JKW thanks for the guidance. yes, it was the 'bottom ' end of the Tuolumne river, and at THE best spot for swimming_ a bend in the river, deepish, slow water, wide and with a rock for jumping off. as for keeping eye contact, I am oldi-sh and often find it difficult to concentrate!! as I also wear spectacles I sometimes find it difficult to focus on people close to, and often it appears as ifby pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
As a skinny dipper devotee, could you please tell a shy Englishman the correct protocol on encountering two lone female 'dippers' who are unaware ( or maybe they weren't) of the approach of someone who just needs to draw water from the inviting pool in the GCTR in which they are swimming/sitting on a rock. I tried being invisible but it didn't work. As it was a very hot day I was quite steaby pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
speaking of the JMT, I recently returned from a great trip that ended with a descent from LYV- only 2 late night bear shows- and was shocked by the lack of (compulsory) bear bells by JMT trailers. also shocked to learn that bear spray is illegal in Yosemite. I just heard: tonight soilent tarmac is being layered over the snow to make a firm and reliable surface for all kinds of transport. first thing in the morning, transport equipped with soilent tyres on soilent rims carrying soilent passengers will travel with ease along the whole of the 120- even as far as the Alaskan highway. unfortunately, anyone in the area (TM) expecting to buy provisions-iceby pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Not having been down Glen Aulin way (yet) I can't comment on that option, but your choices are of course dictated by the availability of W/P's. Depending on fitness and time available, you may want to consider the JMT: there is a nice spot opposite Kuna Creek, or even as far as the small unnamed lake at the foot of the ascent to Donohue pass. A shorter and less energetic option is Booby pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

If we're talking food, I can heartily recommend mac'n cheese with a sprinkling of Katmandhu curry for taste. bars of chocolate that come in squares can be rationed easier than snickers for example. hydration is most important: 1pint of water weighs approx. 1LB. add the weight of communal equipment (tent, stove, gas) and divide by two. if it's only a 2 or 3 day trip, consider only taking two of thby pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
hi, not a lot to add. you may want to consider the PCT: Big bear city or fawnskin to lake arrowhead or silverwood. if you are already a competent day hiker the only extra gear needed would be tent: stove~ unless you ate cold ( I did for a week on the TRT and it was naff)~ sleeping bag, mat, note book, open mind, sense of adventure, the ability to scream loud, comfort in limited compby pines - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Unfortunately its another example of the whole daft/unfair Yosemite reservation system where its possible to obtain a cables permit as part of a w/p long before the cable permit window opens. its all in the timing. good luck with your daily application. ps.by pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. exactly. it reminds me of a few years ago while I was looking for a site near a 'bear hotspot' on sunrise creek. I had done a circular and was approaching my rucksack which I had left on an old stump when a bear ambled up to it and began to sniff. luckily I didn't have any thinking time and began clapping my hands and shouting as per the 'Bear Aware' book. it looked at me as if to say 'is that alby pines - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
