up there 6/04-6/07, transit x4. 20-minute delay misleading--transit during minimal work period (6-8 am) was 15 minutes. so.. you catch a break and arrive in line just as the pilot car has come to your end and is turning around, your wait is 0 minutes. if the pilot car has just departed before you arrived, your wait time will be 30 minuted. this is during light work period, no stops by pilot car.by mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. camped there first, last weeks of the season this year, lots of rumors (hearsay) floating around ("a ranger told me...". spoke at length w a park employee who first told me that the entire campground would be closed for the next 2 years, sounds like he was right. he said that the plan has been on the books for several years. going to assume you haven't camped there before, was there last month during Opening Week. based on the combination of 1/2 the campsites being closed and the entrance reservation requirement, I'd say there will be fewer people than in a "normal" year. WAY less crowded than the Valley. not an international Trophy destination, much larger area for people to spread out strolling/hikingby mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
noticed today on YNP website, re this years treatment of walk-up permits: Normally, the remaining 40 percent are available on a first-come, first-served basis no earlier than 11 am the day before your hike begins as long as permits are available. However, in 2021, these permits are available online two weeks in advance and up to four days in advance. looking on Yosemite Conservancy website,by mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. you're confused. campground is rec.gov, park service. lodge is aramark, private concession.by mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
in fairness, I'm not sure Aramark took the lead on this. NPS current intentions are to leave 6 of 7 campgrounds from Big Oak Flat to Tioga Pass closed. 691 campsites will not open this season north of the Valley.. makes the High Sierra Camps look like small potatoes. unless you have a reservation there. reply email from Yosemite's web manager thanked me for catching the error. Recreation.gov now in line with Yosemite's dates for TM.by mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
unlikely. Yosemite announced that ONLY reservations will be used at TM this summer, which conveniently matches up with reduced occupancy, since normally 50% of the campsites are held back for walk-ups (the only Yosemite campground that uses this hybrid model). as far as I know, TM has never been walk-up only, except a few times when reservations didn't start until day 2 with an early opening andby mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. or is recreation.gov confused? they say end of booking season at TM will be 9/5. thanks. update--my 9/22 entry reservation was just cancelled. meaning, I can go through, but not park (as I would have been able, with an entry reservation). with time on my hands, I wonder how they've been treating "through traffic" when park was open. since seemingly impossible too enforce, I'd guess even commercial traffic on its way to the east side, or in the other direction, needeby mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. currently, roads open, facilities closed, don't get out of your car. does anyone know if you still need reservation to go through entrance? I guess typing a query seems simpler than making a call and being put on hold for ???by mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I have a permit out of agnew meadows on the 15th, the day the current closure ends. "re-evaluated daily" is little solace. I wonder if this means that the fate of the 15th will be decided on the 14th. guess I should just be packed and ready to go. or to unload. as I told my daughters when the covid shutdowns began, once you acknowledge the danger and(properly) shut down, it becomes hardby mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I have a permit to head up Rafferty to Vogelsang a week after Labor Day. Planning first night in TM backpackers' campground. a charitable guess is that the rec.gov folks are having trouble processing 100% cancellations for a large # of sites. would explain their slow-walking their way through the season, when it's clear the season ain't happening this year. of course, there could be less charitable reasons...by mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. yeah, only 50% of the sites can be reserved in advance other 50% walkup. by eliminating walkups, they automatically reduce occupancy to 50%. BTW, hope you're not dead, but Covid will not be gone this year.by mkbgdns - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

not sure your "usual route" has anything to do with going from TM to the Valley. I've been up Budd a number of times, seen only climbers (day use), no backpackers (except me). this site is helpful: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/fulltrailheads.htm Budd and Nelson are listed when full, which in high season is only a few dates. the rigors of travel and navigation are much hiby mkbgdns - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
